So Ava is having some eye issues . I seen it starting to be a little large one night but I though she just got something in it because she loves to roll in hay. However it got really swollen and got red. From what I looked up I believe her third eyelid is acting up. Any tips ? Is a vet visit necessary? I am using terramycin which seems to make the eye less red. I am on day 2 of the medicine

My local vet told me to use the medicine which was weird considering he didn’t see her at all. She was in for a wellness check last week because I got her off Craigslist and wanted to make sure she was healthy. No issues. My vet instructed me to wait till Tuesday next week and if nothing improves. I’m so worried about her
bring her in ASAP. image.jpg

That looks like it could possibly be a prolapse of the gland that's near the third eyelid. You can look at the link below to see if it looks at all like that, though the pictures in the link show a much more severe case. But if it is this then you definitely need to get her in right away. If you need to convince your vet that you need to bring her in asap, email a clear close up photo of it so he can see what's going on.

I'm not sure what is causing the problem, but I also have a rabbit with an eye problem right now and he has weapy eye happening. My suggestion is to keep that area really dry to avoid any further bacteria that will love the wet warm area. My rabbit was terrified when I first would dry his eyes but eventually they realize you are helping them and now he chews with joy when I am cleaning up his eyes and sits contently for it.

Good luck

Taking Ava to the vet tomorrow at 4:45 I wanted to take her today but can not afford a emergency vet so I will keep you all updated

Hello guys ! Well avas vet visit was eye opening. After many test and an ultrasound we still don’t know the underlying issue. We are getting a head X-ray done in 2 weeks after the holiday. The vet said it could be something stuck in her tooth or eye, a tumor, or anything fluids pushing the eye from behind. We got sent home with 4 medications. As a bunny mom I am so scared she is such a sweet and smart girl I feel so bad for her . :,(

Do you have any veterinary ophthalmologists in your area? My bun is having an mystery eye problem too and we are going to see one tomorrow. It took a month to get an appointment so it would be best to start looking for one asap. The fee to see the specialist is only a little bit more than my regular vet so if money is an issue it might be best to skip the regular vet and spend your money at a specialist. They will tell you all the fees over the phone so you can decide.

my vet is having a specialist come in for the X-ray so hopefully they can identify the problem. What is your bunnies eye like? Mine is kinda bulging out and is dried out .

Mine had weapy eye with sudden cloudiness. A specialist was able to clear everything up for us. Good luck at your appt.
