So,
The other day my boyfriend was stroking Chop when he was sat in his house and he started tickling and petting his hind leg area - then like a shot Chop started licking him.

The licking continued for the best part of ten minutes - as long as David was stoking his back leg. And now every time we go to stoke his back leg area he's licking the life out of us.

Choppy is still ' all man' ( i'm in the throws of deciding what to do about that )
and I think it could be that tickling his hind legs would be what a lady bunny would do as a come on to a boy bunny. David just thinks he loves us. Choppy will lick us at other times like when he is getting a cuddle on the sofa but its more of a gradual thing.

So does anyone have any idea why his hind legs send him lick happy?

:p

I have a doe who does the same thing, so I don't really think it's that.

Rabbits are very social animals and it is not unusual for them to groom you when you are well bonded with them.

My doe Clover will lick continously too if you stroke the rear of her back, I wasn't sure either if it was something to do with mating or just general socialism, though as most of my buns spend alot of time grooming each other, I'd be pure gravitating to the social side of things.

I wish my buns would do that. None of mine are lickers. I have had a foster or two that would lick and I loved it!

Darn it - I was going to use it as a reason to get a new bunny after he has been fixed - that fact he needed a play mate. And especially that its Valentine's Day - Was going to play on the card that Choppy needed a love of his life too.

But yay that he loves us. And i'm sure we will be enough for him!
:inlove:

Bunnies have a lick reflex that you can activate by rubbing or scratching them in a certain area. My bun will lick if you scratch him anywhere on his body, but especially near his tail. I read a good article on this by Dana Krempels, but the gist of it is that most bunnies do it and it's just a reflex (kind of the way a dog will thump it's back foot if you scratch it in the right spot).

eta: I found the article: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Rabbits-703/2009/1/bun-bun-loving.htm

Sabrina LOVES to lick me. She didn't do it at first but now that we are bonded she licks me all the time. In fact, the other night I was laying down in her room and she ran over to me and just started to lick my cheek for no reason.

Like the others said, Choppy probably just wants to thank you for grooming him.
