thanks

Have you tried warm chamiole tea bags. I hear that some people have great success with that. Just let the tea bag soak in hot water for 5 minutes, let it cool until it is comfortable to the touch and put on for about 5 minutes.

I don't understand what the vet said about being inflamed rather than being infected. Besides infection, the only reason I can think of for inflammation is things rubbing together & that wouldn't apply to tear ducts. And especially not if it's in both eyes.

The chamomile tea bag approach sounds good. A few years ago one of my tear ducts was inflamed & I just massaged it gently in the direction the tears should be moving & the problem went away. Thanks goodness, as it really hurt & started suddenly.

When Lex couldn't wash himself and his eyes were gumming up the vet gave me something called Lacri-Lube which you can put in or around the eyes to lubricate and treat sore areas. He'd lost a little fur and it soon grew back on this stuff. I was washing with chamomile tea with a pinch of salt in the warm water. That should sort it out. Any chance buns teeth are playing up? If you rub around the jaw does Crystal spaz out like it's sensitive?

i have bathed with the tea past few days today i have actually put the teabag on her eye a bit warmer than i previously did she seemed to like it :D

I am in Hohne north germany
I travelled to Berlin to what one of the vets said was the best rabbit vet in Germany ! THIS LATEST TREATMENT THE STERIODS DOESNT SEEM TO BE WORKING EITHER !!
I move to England in a few weeks where there is a rabbit specialist

i dont understand either the 3 previous vets said there was no infection yet she was on anibikotics the third said behind her eyes is all imflamed and went on about being an albinmo rabbit Crystals eyes up untill April were perfect!! i dont think its serious just wrong diagonis as the vet doesnt know costing me a fortune so far for meds that are no good i feel sometimes they think my poor baby is a guinea pig no offence to guinea pigs figure of speech :(

I just reread this posting and realized that Lyn's vet gave this rabbit steriods. Steriods as far as I know are a definite no, no for rabbits as it suppresses their immune system and damages the liver. Wondering if anyone has any other suggestions.

Best bet is probably holistic care. Most important thing is not to stress her or yourself out.

Just feed her a great selection of greens and other veggies, treats like herbs and flowers, lots of fresh air and exercise, regular feeding times, lots of rest, lots of pets.

Did anybody come up with a diagnosis aside from tear ducts? If they're really inflamed, antibiotic ointment in the eyes is often the ticket, but sometimes it takes experimenting to find the right one.

Keep a close eye on her temperature and demeanour, watch for fever, lethargy, but again, don't panic. De-stressing is the most important thing, even if it means no treatment.

What antibiotics has she been on?

I found an article, don't know how good it is on raising a rabbits immune system and cleaning up their systems. Sort of sounds like Pipp idea of holistic care. She has to get back on her feet and basically good food, exercise, fresh air and lots and lots of love is definitely the answer. The article if you are interested - maybe Pipp could also have a look at it and let you know what she thinks if from The Pet Medicine Chest. I found it by typing in Rabbit Chronic Sickness - Beagles Unlimited. She is a big strong rabbit. Try not to panic.
