a month ago i rescued a 6 month old rabbit, I know nothing about the previous owner, we found him in the bush and wasn't microchipped so decided to take him in. (he's albino and I think he is a mini rex, he's my first rabbit and i am still learning!) 2 weeks ago he started to close his left eye. its mostly when he's relaxed/eating, but he can open it completely when he needs to. otherwise it looks completely fine, theres no redness or discharge coming from it. he eats normal and is active! i've taken him to vet and they couldnt find anything wrong. is there anything else this could be? 240824217_1223809601468003_2628923591649688434_n(1).jpg

As not all vets are equal with our precious buns, I wonder did the vet check his eye for a corneal scratch with a fluoroscein stain test? A drop of greenish dye is put into the eye and the eye examined with a special light. A hay may have poked it. A small scratch will heal by itself but usually antibiotic eyedrops are given while it heals just in case.

If he's consistently closing it when chewing, and you feel that it's not normal, it could be a dental issue that is causing him pain while he chews. Possibly molar spurs causing ulcers inside his mouth, or a tooth infection.

Another possibility if it's not just happening when he's eating and chewing, is eye pain from glaucoma. One thing to check is if his eye seems to be bulging at all.

Here's a rabbit vet list. Or if you're near Melbourne, there's the Melbourne Rabbit Clinic.
