Took my old boy to the vet about a month ago. He has immature cataracts in both eyes(she determined that he can see shadows though), and we're thinking he might have a weak immune system or something really effecting his health.. He's also always had malocclusions.

He's about eight or nine years old, he had mites which we treated with ivermectin and was successful. He's now molting of course. While his activity levels seem normal, and he's eating and going to the bathroom normally... I'm worried about him.

His vet recommended that we try to help boost his immune system by adding vitamins(he now gets an immune system boost biscuit from Oxbow, and a vitamin that I have to liquefy and add to his food but can't recall off the top of my head what it's called - maybe sunfactor? sun-something anyway...) ... Is there anything else any lovely bunny experienced owners can recommend? Natural ways of helping boost his immune system... I also think he needs a boost of protein while he molts, any suggestions?

I know some rabbit owners with snuffles buns, will give their buns echinacea leaf(coneflower) for a bit of immune boost. You can buy the dried leaf in bulk from herb suppliers. You may want to do a bit of research to make sure you get it from a reputable company. Here's one I found(don't know if it is good though).

If he doesn't have bladder sludge or kidney issues, I've always found alfalfa hay to be good at boosting protein and helping with weight gain. The leafier and less 'stemmy' it is, the higher in protein it will be. It's also best to gradually introduce into the diet like you would do with new pellets or veggies.

If you haven't already seen these links, they have some good info on cataracts.
