Carpet backing - what is that and why is it bad?

I've been reading about using carpet in the bunny cage but having to make sure there was no backing on it. What do you mean by "backing?" I have some industrial carpet tiles and the back is slippery "plastic like material" - would this be okay? Would carpet with the weave at the back be okay and is a rubber anti skid back bad?

Pictures would be perfect but an explanation is okay too.

not sure what kind of backing you are asking about. We have a carpet pad in all but one hutch, as our biggest bunny thinks everything is chewable. The others just rest on them and don't chew.
