Hi all, been meaning to ask about this. Our bunny won't eat any hay stems. Is that normal? Will that affect his teeth that he's not chewing on anything but leaves? I leave the stems overnight and add more fresh hay on top but in the morning I notice he's barely touched the stems. Something else he won't eat at all are alfalfa cubes. Seems like we have a picky eater

Don't worry, it should be ok if he eats hay, grass and so.

They do not wear their teeth off on hard stuff, it's more about the right chewing motion which comes with eating hay, grass etc. (countrary to pellets, grains which are chewed with the back teeth), upper and lower teeth wear off and sharpen on each other. Also, the leafes of grass/hay are quite abrasive too.

That is at least the case with rabbit breeds that do not have deformed skulls for some cutness factor, those are more prone to dental issues.
