My bunny is spinning. My bun is a dwarf lop and is at least 8 years old. She is a free range bunny in day and in cage at night. She’s eating pellets and hay and drinking water. She does have problems with discharge from one of her eyes which vets have looked at and given medication for. Yesterday she started tilting her head and because it seemed like she couldn’t resist it she started leaning in and going around in tight circles and sometimes falling in on her hind legs. She doesn’t seem to be able to stop herself from running in these circles. Can a vet fix this behavior?

With there also being eye discharge, your rabbit most likely has an ear infection, possibly an inner ear infection. The circling can be due to ear pain and/or compression of the nerves. Another possible cause for head tilt/circling, is the parasite e. cuniculi, but with your rabbit having eye discharge, ear infection does seem the most likely explanation.

You really need to get your rabbit seen by an experienced rabbit vet today if possible, at the latest tomorrow. Your rabbit will need to be put on a rabbit safe antibiotic and an anti inflammatory pain med for 4-6 weeks minimum usually. If this is affecting your rabbits ability to eat and drink, if your rabbit is dehydrated then sub q fluids will need to be given by the vet, then your rabbit will also need syringe feeding mix and will need to be given regular syringe feeds at home. This disease is serious and symptoms can progress rapidly if the infection isn't brought under control, so vet care right away is absolutely necessary.
