Hi all, I was just wondering how many of you have bred rabbits and for what reasons?

We first got into rabbits when my daughter was in FFA. She bred them for her project, showed the offspring, and placed very well with them in several livestock shows. After high school she decided that she enjoyed the showing aspect so much that we have continued the hobby.

I raise rabbits. For me, it's simply an exhibition hobby - like people showing dogs or horses. Outside of the shows, the rabbits are just my pets. :)

I think I share that story with most people who raise rabbits today. However, rabbits are still a good source of protein and may be raised for either human or animal consumption. Rabbits may also be raised for wool or fur. They're a multi-purpose animal with many benefits. A lot of breeders enjoy them mainly as pets though.
