Anyone have vet suggestions for Gainesville FL?

Sorry about the really specific subject, but I feel quite pressed for time. I already have an appointment for a neuter for next Wednesday but I want to cancel ASAP because they're charging twice the amount I expected! It's at the UF small animal hospital and I took my boy there a few months ago when he was tiny and it went fine. So I called again for his neuter (omg needs to happen soon, he's driving us crazy) and they said they have to do an evaluation and possibly blood work, then keep him overnight and do surgery in the morning. And it's considered a "pocket pet" neuter which costs $300-400!

I'm pretty sure I paid that much for a SPAY in south Florida.

Anyways, I don't want to pay that much, but I'm scared of going to a bad vet (has happened before). Does anyone have any recommendations please?
