I've had this white dwarf for a couple of months now and he used to jump around and do binkies, however he used to hang around the dining table and hide. I purchased a new rabbit to keep him company but all he white dwarf wanted to do was hump him and bite his neck. So we got him spayed last thursday, it's tuesday today. Ever since he has been sulking in his cage and when we let him out he just thumps at you, runs about two meters away and just stares at you. I picked him up a few times over the last few days and give him pats on the head and his favorite scratches but as soon as you put him down he runs off and thumps. My other bunny is happy as and jumps everywhere in the air. The new black one is 8 weeks old and the white dwarf is 5 months old. If you put the white bunny back in his cage he runs to the corner and thumps and just stares. He's eating, drinking and pooing normally.

Here's some pics of a happy bunny and one sulking looking bunny

What sort of bunny is the black one btw?

Hi and welcome to RO.

Your Bunnies are adorable. First off you just had your Bunny spayed a week ago, he's still recovering. Think if you had surgery you wouldn't want to be jumping around.

I would also be careful putting the two of them together. He seems alot bigger then your new bunny. Humping is a normal thing for them to do.. Honestly if it was me I would not have them together until you can get the second one fixed which is not for a few months. What sex is the second bunny?

Just my opinion, I'm not saying I'm right. I'm sure others will come with advice for you.

Look forward to more pictures of your babies.:)

Humping isn't but is normal. I would discourage it.

and I would keep them seperated. He really is NOT likeing the new rabbit in his territory. And like stated above if you had surgery you're not happy and jumping around.

Ill have a different opinion then a lot of people on here, but I do NOT house rabbits together.

I would give him more time to heal. While he is healing, I would not introduce any changes that might stress him out. When he starts acting a little more like himself when he is out, then you can start thinking about bonding again. However, you may want to wait until your new rabbit is fixed. Usually, bonding two bunnies goes better when both are neutered.

As others have said, he is still recovering. When I had my two buns neutered, they weren't themselves for several days. It took upwards of a week for them to be comfortable enough to move around again.

When it comes to putting them together, I would avoid it. My boys have been neutered for two months now, but I still keep them separated by a divider. They can still see, smell, and hear each other (and spend a lot of their time laying next to one antoher), but they aren't in each others territory.

Thankyou for your input, I don't normally keep them together. I supervise them nightly for a couple of hours inside. Smokey just wants to play and mr sniffles is like "go away you child" haha

Any idea what breed smokey is? The black one

bringing this thread back.

Im still having this issue with my white dwarf. If I go outside and start walking to the cage, he thumps really loud, belts it to the otherside of the cage, runs upstairs and thumps. If I pop the lid to go pick him up he runs flat out down stairs and over to the other cage I have joined on which makes it about 2-3 meters long. He just seems to hate me ever since he had his balls chopped off. He's eating and drinking normally, hes just always p*ssed off.

I bring him out of his cage on a nightly basis but when you put him on the rug he thumps, runs 2 metres and turns round and stares at you. Every night without fail.

should I keep him in his cage for a while and dont touch him at all and slowly hand feed him until he wants to come to me? I dont know what to do, my lop bunny "moo moo" and Smokey are very friendly and playful towards me.

I would continue to try to touch him so he will learn that you are not going to bring him to the vet everytime you pick him up. He has learned that on one notable occasion, you brought him somewhere that was terrifying and confusing. He may be taking more time than most bunnies to get over it.

In addition to the traumatic experience of the vet and surgery, other possible explanations for this personality change are hormonal (having just been neutered), and maturation. I have only 2 buns, but a friend of mine who breeds them says that not all bunnies that are sweet cuddly as young'n's stay that way. Some grow up to be grouchy adults. One of mine is kind of grouchy. Sometimes you just have to accept them for who they are.

Lastly, how much time are they allowed out of the cage? No one wants to live in a space that small. In the wild, a group of rabbits would use acres of land, not a few square feet. I am sure others here will disagree, but I don't understand why they don't all go crazy and develop bizarre behavior, from a life so much less stimulating than what they would want, if given the opportunity to choose.

Well last night I let my white dwarf out of his cage and noticed he had p*ss from one of the other rabbits all over him, felt sorry for him so I gave him a soaplessbath and a warm blow dry. Seemed to enjoy it all which didn't think would happen. I dont normally bath my rabbits, but seeing he was a white rabbit, with yellow sprinkles,I dont think he would be able to clean himself in areas he cant access.

Put him in the lounge room and tried to feed him some lettuce for being so good and he didn't really seem interested. For some reason he didn't want any last night either. I picked him up patted him in front of the tv for about half an hour before I went to put him back in his cage. He started kicking flat out so I put him in, he launched him self in the cage and he landed on his side and he didnt move.

I picked him back up wondering what was wrong. He started gasping as I watched the colour run from his eyes. By the time i ran back inside his heart and breathing slowly stopped. I put him back on his rug and he was gone.

Absolutely devo

. We can only assume he was sick, as ever since he got his balls chopped he stopped being hyperactive and just sat there. He seemed to eat ok tho.Wejust thought he was a quiet bunny.Just so sudden. I burried him this morning on a bed of hay, told him I loved him and made cross out of Hay.

RIP Mr Sniffles xxoo

My Bun Desmond looks just like your Smokey!! Mine is a Netherland Dwarf. :)

Anyway for your white dwarf, I would really try to separate him in his own cage for a while. It sounds like him being around other bunnies isn't really his thing and if a bunny like that doesn't have his own kingdom he can be really moody. I saw the same behavior with my bunny before I adopted him. Some bunnies just like to be solo. Especially after they are neutered/spayed sometimes. Getting any animal fixed can change them unexpectedly.. Or try giving him your sole attention. Like my bun is an absolute poop if any other person around, so I always play with him in a room where it's just him and me. Honestly sometimes I read to him, it really makes him happier when he hears me talk in a calm voice or sing.

Try reading next time

Well got a call from the vet about smokey who hasn't been feeling well and has been on medication for a couple of weeks. Something has ruptured and he needs to be put to sleep

:(

Wait, the vet said something had ruptured and he needed to be put to sleep? How long did they let this go? Why didn't they tell you before? Why would they only tell you after the fact? Or am I misunderstanding and that something ruptured when he fell or something? I'm confused, but if they called to tell you that they knew something that serious was wrong and they let it go... Something is screwy there.

I'm sorry for your loss. R.I.P little bun.

we let smokey out a couple of weeks ago and he wasnt interested in playing which is very odd. Normally he zigzags flat out everywhere, flops and binkies. He was the same the next day, so we took him to a rabbit specialist. She did an inspection of his poo and found a virus in his tummy which caused him to be bloated and sore.

She gave us antibiotics and critical care to feed him over the next week which didnt seem to do anything, took him back and she seemed to think he was more alert, however he was dehidrated. so she upped the dosage of the critical care.

Week went by and we took him back down cos he was still feeling pain, he sat there constantly grinding and hunched up in a ball :( They called us and said they need to give him something to make him hydrated again, inspect his poos and administer more antibiotics and asked if they could do an xray as well. So after the Xray they said something had ruptured and he needed to be put to sleep. It would of been nicer if they did the xray before giving him all this other stuff, would of been cheaper. The exercise already cost 300 bucks.

I saw his xray and his tummy was just a ball of fluid, you couldnt see any organs really :( poor little thing

at least he's not in pain anymore, the worst thing is there isnt anything we could of done and not really a way to stop it happening. It just happens to some bunnys. She said it can be something he's picked up from the breeder and has only shown up now, had nothing to do with his diet
