Animal Planet did a series called something like "Animal Rescue Heroes, _____"
(name of a city)

They did one for Phoenix which showed rabbits being rescued from a hoarder that were kept in tiny, fly-infested cages. They then showed them being checked over and cared for by a local rabbit rescue. And then showed what happened to one of those rabbits who was adopted out to a loving indoor home. (the loving indoor home happened to by mine :big wink So I was on Animal Planet with 2 of my kids, my new rabbit at the time who bonded with my other one, and my Newfoundland.

Houston has a VERY active group who foster bunnies until they are adopted. They provide personality descriptions to make sure they get the right owner, as well as various other things. http://bunnybuddies.org

Animal Planet has no control over what happens to the animals rescued by the Houston SPCA.

Edit to add- Welcome to the forum, Retired Rabbits! I think what you do is a great alternative for feral rabbits that would be stressed out in an indoor environment and those rabbits with no other options.

I let our buns out in our fenced in yard all the time (weather permitting)and I do not stay out with them most of the time. Often my kids are out with them, and the dog. I now feel it is quite safe as we have few birds of prey and they have lots of hiding places. They love it, scratch at the screen when they want in or out. I do not think letting them out without me being in the yard with them makes me irresponsible. Our buns are well cared for, well socialized, well fed and loved. They are less territorial outside and get along, kind of. Inside, the bonded trio prefers not to come out of their cage, which does not allow for adequate exercise imo but given the size of our home, it is the best we can do.

That is really upsetting! Houston is not the place to be releasing a rabbit... a huge city that has extreme heat during the summer? Wot is wrong with them?!
