Pain = irrational behavior?? (RIP Jack)

Just to close this out, the CBC came back with a white blood cell count over 20,000. She said it should have been around 8,000. His age (7+) and existing medical condition made it too much for recovery. They did give him some very strong antibiotics last night but it was too much to recovery...

Pain = irrational behavior?? (RIP Jack)

Thanks for the kind wishes. They're thinking he had a very serious infection since he went from regular activity/appetite on Friday to emergency situation in 24 hours. In the past, he always showed signs in advance when his bladder was uncomfortable. They'll have the CBC and other test results...

Pain = irrational behavior?? (RIP Jack)

Jack passed away this morning. Last night, the vet thought he had improved somewhat but I guess it was not enough. I wish I could have been with him and I strongly debated not leaving him there by himself. He was so scared and I feel so bad.

Pain = irrational behavior?? (RIP Jack)

I got to see him today. It's a really terrible sight. He's laying on his side tensing all of his muscles and is very jumpy. They say he's in pain but they're giving him pain medicine. They're going to try something different at the next time for medicine. He's still hanging on but there's still...

Pain = irrational behavior?? (RIP Jack)

Thanks for the replies. Just after posting this, I noticed blood instead of urine/sludge coming out of Jack. I rushed him to the vet. I was lucky they were already there at 10PM on a Saturday handling other emergencies. They did an x-ray and his bladder is more full (larger) than normal. She...

Pain = irrational behavior?? (RIP Jack)

Hello, Jack is a 7 year old male English Spot. We have been able to maintain a really good quality of life over the past three years despite struggling with bladder sludge. We usually have a flair up 2-3 times per year but he's otherwise symptom free. We're going through a flair up...

    Chase - UPDATED 5/22/10

Hello Amy and everyone else with bladder sludge problems... I kind of fell off the radar for awhile. We've had quite a bit of drama here fighting the bladder sludge problem at home. I saw someone posted about the Potassium Citrate and mentioned my rabbit Jack. Yes, he is 1700 grams and is on...

    Chase - UPDATED 5/22/10

It makes me wonder if we have an environmental factor in common. I have experimented with changing water in the past with no luck. I've tried different types of bottled water including distilled water. I wonder what other factors we should be examining? I also struggle with the fact...

    Calcium buildup

Glad to hear things are looking up. One note, despite months of dealing with this, I rarely see sludge in Jack's litter box. The urine may be darker, which can indicate sludge in our case, but it also varies in color based on what he has been eating. The only time I've seen the actual thick...

    Calcium buildup

I'll let you know how the Potassium Citrate affects, if at all, Jack's sludge problem. You may find yourself looking for additional new ideas in a month or two. We're nine months into the overall process and have gone one week on this new treatment. Regarding the Vitamin D, I...

    Tips for giving oral medication?

Does anyone know if mixing a medicine with banana is bad for rabbits with bladder sludge issues? As mentioned in another thread, I am giving Potassium Citrate but it's quite difficult to give him for some reason. I only ask because one week before this whole bladder sludge issue began, I...
