It's been a few years since I've had a rabbit and we rescued a rabbit yesterday that wasn't planned. I did a quick run to the store after bringing the rabbit home and picked up bare essentials. The rabbit is over 1 years old, male, and is either a holland or mini lop. He wasn't left with any of his normal food or anything. So I picked up some timothy hay and also Oxbow adult rabbit pellets. Is oxbow still a good brand of food? He seems to be liking the food, he eats the hay good and he started eating the pellets today. He gets 1/4 cup of pellets but he doesn't eat them all. He eats romaine lettuce and I offered him a little bell pepper yesterday and today and he didn't eat it yesterday but he did sample it today. He really prefers his hay and romaine. I intend on slowly introducing more fresh foods to his diet as he gets more settled in.

I intend on keeping him on the Oxbow adult pellets, if they are still good, but buying different types of grass hay to give him a variety. I also intend on offering him fresh foods daily. That's how I used to feed my previous rabbit and he did fantastic.

Sounds like you've got it down. I would stick with one new green for several days before moving on to a different one. That way, if he does have a reaction to one specific one, you'll know which one is the problem. Just take your time with it.

Oxbow is still good. They've changed some of their lines and have a few to choose from. They're all pretty good. They have their Essentials line, Simple Harvest, and Organic Bounty -- each with different plusses.

thanks again! We got the simple harvest line because that is all we could find local that was a timothy hay pellet and not alfalfa based. If we had to switch and order something we definitely would but this was a unplanned adoption so we got the best of what we had available. So far all he had was the romaine, the bell peppers were offered because I had some left overs and didn't want them to go to waste. He ate maybe 1/2 a little sliver today. I will add them slowly though from here on out to reduce tummy upset.

Bless you for rescuing. I'm also an unplanned rescuer. I buy all my rabbits food and supplies on Amazon. We don't have any decent petfood stores near us. I would only suggest finding a vet who will see rabbits and has emergency hours before you actually need one. We have to drive an hour to our vet but they are the best, fortunately and available 24/7. Also you will find excellent advice on this site and great caring support.

Hi, very nice of you for rescuing him! I think maybe his pellets are fine just maybe he had some different type and you know when you are making changes you mix his old pellets with new gradually but in your situation you just don't know so I think he will eat yours just give him a couple days, it is great that he eats hay and romaine hay is more important and pellets just an addition. I have a rescue myself Fred was left in a cardboard box on street in January and people took him in but they don't know about rabbits just gave him carrots and cabbage for a week and then brought him to me. He was very slow and was staying in his corner without any movements for more than 12 hours no interest in food or water, then started drinking and ate some food, but it took a couple weeks when he started eating normally. Now he's great I have him for almost 7 months he's good active rabbit and eats very well. Hope yours will be all good in a couple days too.
He's a very good rabbit absolutely no pain very good character I am very happy I have him, just when I've got him he didn't look great and didn't want to communicate at all and wasn't active I thought he's maybe old and ill that's why he was dumped but now he's a very happy rabbit I am very happy and he's gorgeous too.
