Worm beds - have some questions

Okay, got a few questions here on having worm beds under the cages:

Is it safe to have worm beds under cages? Even if you get in there to get out worms? I read in one book that it is not safe, since it can let out ammonia smell & other gases...

Does any one have any experience, or recommended sites or books for more info on this?

What all does it entail to do this? Can you just slap a frame together under the rabbit cage & put worms in it? Or is it more in-depth? Do you have to get it wet fairly often (so I read on some things)?
