I just adopted my sweet healthy Kirby 3 weeks ago but I think sooner or later I should get him to a good vet for a checkup and to establish a relationship with a vet. My Kirby is 2 years old and is eating and pooping well -- I'm not particularly worried, just trying to prepare myself. The place I adopted from took good care of him as well :)The only thing is he's pretty shy and jumpy and he's only just started to warm up to me. He hates his carrier and I want to keep him in a stable environment as long as possible before taking him out for a vet trip. When do you think is a good time to take him to a first vet visit? Advice appreciated!

I think that you can take him any time now. ..

At our shelter every animal has to go the first week after adoption

None of them like to go but that way he will learn what the trip is all about and you can also find out if he has anything wrong that isn't showing itself.(they probably will test his poops routinely for parasites)

I think that it is a good question because you are thinking of your rabbit's stress level and his health:)

I tried to take mine within the first month. They were still shy and nervous when I took them but it was quick and they were fine when we got home. I now take them every year for a yearly check.

Definitely take your bun to the vet. It establishes a baseline just in case something happens. It is up to you what the exam involves. You might want to get bloodwork and a fecaldone if the rabbit was found as a stray or came from a neglectful situation.
