Hi,

I heard or read somewhere that if Holland Lops get their ears in the water dish in the winter time in an unheated rabbitry that they can freeze them and then that is really bad,

What kind of dishes would you use so this does not happen.:?

Thanks in advance.:)

I never had that happen (Holland ears generally don't extend far past their jawline) - but it is a possibility with English Lops.

Before we had an auto water system and heated barn, I used small crocks and took out a bucket of hot water everyday to soak the ice out.

I have the heavy plastic dishes and i have lots of them so i just take the frozen ones in and thaw them out and give them clean ones.

I know my friend was telling me that her Holland Lop got his ears in the water dish and they froze so she had to take him to the vet for surgery but don`t know what kind of dishes she was using.

I am going to look for a heavy plastic dish that is wide on bottom but narrower on top.

I thank you very much for your reply.:):)

Here is the water dish i use.
