I have a rabbit that has a uti. I was wondering how long it should take for the medicine to work? She's on smz tmp twice a day. I did read that this med isn't that effective. Is that true? Thank you. :bunnynurse:

That is a common med given for UTI's and should be effective. You should see results pretty quickly, usually with in a day or two there should be noticeable improvement.

It is possible for any antibiotic to not be effective, if there is a resistant strain or a type of bacteria that that doesn't respond to that abx. If you aren't seeing any improvement in a few days time, just give your vet a call. It may be you need to try something different like baytril.

She put her on penicillin injections once a week for 3 weeks. Hope it works if not its onto baytril.
