Yesterday I ran out of eye drops... on day 7. I just called the vet office and our normal vet is not in until Monday ... so that gave me an opportunity to make an appointment for Slippers tomorrow with the other "rabbit vet" there for a second opinion without offending, since she needs a recheck asap anyway.

Her eyes are not noticeably improved.

It's good that you're getting a second opinion. Make sure you know the names of the medications she's already been given so you can give the second vet a full history. Good luck! I hope you can get a more appropriate antibiotic!

second opinion-absolutely-,its all about the rabbit,,.if there has been no improvement,,wow,-all i can say is drill them, make them prove they know what they are talking about--sometimes this is the only way to find a good rabbit specialist./.rabbits generally have time issues,,due to the fact they are prey animals--they do not readily show signs of weakness to predators-(problems can be hard to catch.)--it also helps to be very knowledgeable of rabbits--you donot want to come away feeling like a victim,,..sincerely james waller:wave:

Yeah, the problem is, I've been taking my rabbits to this vet for 10 years, I thought I'd already found my good bunny vet. She's treated my rabbits for many things successfully over the years. That is why I am hesitant to possibly offend by discounting her evaluation.

Yes, but sometimes vets can get complacent and not treat something as aggressively as they should, plus rabbit medicine is constantly changing. :dunno:

The vet visit:

The Dr. tried to look at and flush her tear duct, but said it was so inflamed that he could not get a good look, and she would not stay still long enough for him to flush it while she is awake. He said there is a lot of pus and inflammation.

He prescribed a different antibiotic eye drop which also contains cortisone. He wants to see her again on monday to see if there's any improvement and to try to tear duct flushing again when hopefully the inflammation is brought down.

I asked about an x-ray to check the tooth roots, and he did not think this looks like that problem. He said an injectable antibiotic may be what is needed but first he wants to get a better look at the eye after the cortisone.

The eye drops he prescribed are:
"Neo-Poly-Dex"
Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic Suspension USP
