Tort Question

I have a question about tort colors. It may sound stupid but how does a tort come about?

For example, I have a mini rex tort doe (black based) and her pedigree is:

Sires side: Black, Broken Black, Blue, Broken Lilac, Black, Broken Blue, Blue

Dam's side: Black, Sable Point, Black, Sable Point, Sable Point, Black, Black



Is it the sable point?.. :?So lost...

From the dam's side, the sable point most likely gave her one 'e' gene.

From the sire's side, it must have came from off the pedigree. one of those odd: "how did that work?" moments. XD
