I took Tristynn out for her usual run in the fenced backyard this evening since it was so nice out. About 10 minutes into playtime, I noticed she was limping and wasn't putting any weight on her back right foot/leg. It looks like her ankle is swollen or something, but I'm not sure.

She had some pellets left over from her dinner last night, but she's eating hay like a champ. She's drinking fine, and doesn't seem to be in any pain. I had her out earlier this afternoon in a puppy pen, and she seemed fine. Other than that, she's been napping in her cage all day, and I don't see how she could have injured herself. She was running around binkying in the yard yesterday, and she didn't seem to have any issues moving this evening when I first saw her limping.

I have Tris in a show carrier right now to restrict movement; the carrier is padded with hay, resting boards, and a grass mat so that she's not on the wire. I have some vet wrap from a sore hocks incident a while back [different rabbit] I could wrap her foot in, but I don't know if that's necessary. Is there anything I else I can do for her?

I know the obvious answer right now is to get her to a vet. Hopefully, I can get her in first thing tomorrow [I forget whether it's Wednesdays or Thursday the rabbit specialist takes off...]. I'm wondering if anyone has any clue as to what could be wrong with her, and what I should expect to hear from the vet tomorrow. I know it's a little late tonight to be asking [at least it is in my time zone...], but I'm hoping someone is on that can give me some advice.

Here's some pictures I took of her foot; I'm not sure if they're any help at all or not.

Her "bad" foot:

Her "good" foot for comparison:

Both feet side by side:

Not a very good pic, but my finger is on the spot where it feels more swollen:

Ignore the urine stain, please. Trissy loves to sleep curled up in her litter box. :rollseyes

Tristynn is a very special little lady, and she means a lot to me. Any helpful advice [especially a "You're overreacting!"] would be extremely appreciated.

You are doing exactly the correct thing by keeping her confined ; I am fairly sure that she most likely twisted her leg or foot in some way when she was playing...maybe a bad sprain . if she is eating and drinking she probably is not in pain but definitely should be examined.

Hi, I agree with angieluv it does look like sprain and taking her to the vet when you can is a good idea. An xray to rule out fracture is good too. One thing that helps sprains actually is hydration, and a lot of it. I'd push fluids, and when you get into the vet ask for sub qs. It is amazing the difference hydration makes with strains and sprains.

She has a tumor on her toe...

We've opted to remove the toe, do a biopsy, and go from there. My biggest concern is that this is something that is going to come back again eventually, in which case I don't know what I would do... We'll know more after the biopsy.

She's still at the vet. I have to go back in later to pick her up and look at x-rays. Not sure when the vet wants to do surgery... I'll update when I know more.

WOW !!!

I didn't expect that!!

I would have thought that you would have seen it before yesterday ?
I hope that it turns out to be benign

please let us know how she is doing

WOW !!!

I didn't expect that!!

Me neither. I spent all morning researching foot abscesses, sprains, breaks, and the like; totally was not expecting this. :(

I didn't mess with her feet too much today after I got the news, but I did feel a very small lump on her toe; if that's truly the tumor, then there's no way I would have noticed it during normal nail clipping and quick health checks unless I was looking for it.

Since I didn't get her an actual appointment, the vet was kind enough to let me drop her off this morning and got to Tris on her free time between appointments. Unfortunately, that meant that I wasn't able to talk with the vet outside the quick phone call she gave me to tell me the diagnosis, and I didn't get to go in and look at x-rays today. Tris is booked for her surgery Friday morning; I need to call and confirm, but I plan on having a talk with the vet that morning before sending her under the knife.

Poor girl is so mad about not getting her exercise/play time today, but I don't want her limping around on that foot. At least she's feeling well enough to give me attitude. :rollseyes

Thanks for all the support everyone; it really does help. I'll keep everyone updated as we fight this thing!

Just wanted to update to say that Tris made it through surgery just fine. She's been very quiet, so I'm keeping a close eye on her.

I can't remember exactly how the vet worded it, but she believes that the tumor didn't start to bother her until she "knocked"/"loosened" it while playing, which caused the swelling and limping. I'm not sure how to word what I'm trying to say, but it made sense when the vet explained it.

The biopsy results should be back hopefully on Wednesday... I don't think I can wait till then. :nerves1
