We have two rabbits who have begun to sneeze. No runny noses, no moisture around the noses. Just occaisional sneezes. More like snorts really, like they are trying to get something out. They are eating and drinking just fine. any ideas?

PS.

thanks again for all the help a couple of weeks ago with JO-JO. He is happy in bunny heaven. We found another broken blue mini rex ( much like to one in the above picture!) Cosmo. Unfortunately, he is one of the sneezers.

If they were not sneezing before and they are now I see that as potential for a problem
It is possible it is allergies so observe their environment carefully for a few days to determine if their is anything different that could be going on causing dust, etc.
I would observe them at least another day to see if it decreases or worsens; if it continues I would take them both to the vet.
I have had Upper respiratory infections in a few of my rabbits start out with sneezing without discharge, treated them with an antibiotic and have the sneezing cease therefore indicating to me that a bacterial infection was beginning.

Thank you! As I read thru the previous posts I saw that paul had a similar question. I'll watch for a day and see what happens. They are in a dustier area than before.

Dust can have a huge impact. I got some dusty hay recently and had a couple appear with URI type symptoms, but when I changed the hay, they have all recovered (thankfully).

Any way you could get rid of the dust in their area? Or maybe increase ventilation?

one sure fire way to find out is a nasal culture from your local dvm exotic specialist for enterococcus, anibiotic required,..sincerely james waller
