hello all!

Yesterday i discovered that bebe the bunny's eyelid looked a little red and inflamed... it's on the bottom lashline in the middle of the lid... it's probably half a centimeter across... under closer inspection, i was able to pull the eyelid away from the eye and look at the backside of the inflamed area and i found a small white circle... there is no discharge and the eyeball itself looks normal... I think it's a stye, but i wanted to get an opinion from you all... has anyone else dealt with this? I haven't been able to find many resources on it on the internet, but have found a couple mentions of it happening in other rabbits... so far i've been putting warm washcloths in a ziplock bag on it to help bring it to a head... I can take pictures tomorrow when she wakes up if you want to see it... thanks!

Photos would definetly help to understand what it is.. Has the enviorment changed at all? New buns in the mix, new pen orfoodor new hay? What type of bun is having the problem (could it be genetic?).. Any new food?

Give as much info as you can, it will help others diagnosis it. Also look through the library here as there is ALOT of info on bun diseases and may help you when you go to the Vet.

Good luck and post with any changes..

well, i just moved about a week ago... We drove up from san diego to the san francisco bay area... so obviously that was stressful and now she's in a new environment (which she seems to love)... Same food, same batch of hay, same cage, no new buns... She is an american fuzzy lop... the vet that i took her to when i adopted her (6 months ago) said that smaller breeds like her are prone to eye/respiratory issues simply because of the compactness of the way they are made... she had bordatella when i adopted her (I wasn't aware of it when i got her... SURPRISE!) and i had it treated with antibiotics... she still gets a little sniffly, but acts normal otherwise... anyway, back to the eye... she will let me touch it without trying to run away, so i don't think it's painful for her... the bunny specialist vet in the area can't see her until next week so I'm hoping to get an idea of what it is so i can prevent it from worsening in that time... I will take pictures of her in the morning and see what you all think... thanks!

Eye Problems

Pay particular attention to this link (with photos):

... and most notably these sections of the above link (although examine the others as well to see if anything else fits).

Eye problems can appearminor butactually signal a serioushealth issue. It's best to get themchecked out by a vet.

EDIT: Whoops, wrong link, but both are good, added the second one for the miebomian cyst.

Hi!! welcome to RO :welcome1.

Bebe is VERY CUTE :)

I hope, her eye gets betta!! Its probably best, to have her checked by a RABBIT SAVVY vet.

please check out sas's links posted above.

***hugs***

yes, she is just about the cutest little bunny i've ever seen (that's not just me being a proud bunny mama! haha)... I've seen quite a bit of improvement since using the warm compress on it... in fact, this morning it was so small that i forgot which eye it was on! I'm going to do it again today and see if it helps anymore...

well, i was considering that to be a possibility, but the fact that it sprung up so fast and the skin looks pink (indication of infection) means that it could be a stye...

she takes the cuuuuuuuuuuuuutest bunny naps!

just letting everyone know that bebe is all better!!!! i looked at her today and the redness and white bump is gone! thanks for your advice!
