I've recently adopted a rabbit (Professor Jonathan Withers) from the humane society where i work. He was deemed un-adoptable because people complained that his red urine looked like blood. He is a very sweet boy and i couldn't let him to euthanized for such a stupid reason (rescue organizations were all full, so he couldn't be sent to a rabbit rescue that could deal with the issue more). In any case, i was wondering if anyone has ever experienced this? He's been in the shelter since May 29th and has had red urine the entire (i've read it's supposed to go away within 2-3 days). We also stopped giving him vegetables to make sure it wasn't that causing it. The vets say he has excess porphorin pigment in his urine, however i was wondering if this could be caused by some underlying problem. He is otherwise quite healthy (or seems to be). I'm going to be taking him to my own exotic vet shortly after i get him (get him friday after being neutered) so i will discuss his issues there as well, however i'm just wondering if there are specific things i should bring up during my vet appointment.
thanks!!!
