Our 7 year old tripod bunny is medically not having his best year. He has been on Metacam for a few months now - arthritis and dental problem. Also on chronic liver meds. Even though we are still trying and offering him his favorite food, he doesn't eat a lot. Just a bit of lucern plant, small bites of apple and Critical Care twice a day. For some or other reason he still eats a small little red Dougnut (rabbit biscuits) now and them.

Have never seen his poop looking like this . Photo attached. Mostly solid but since last night, very watery as well. He has a vet appointment ( another dental) scheduled for Monday. Will appreciate some feedback on the red spots in his poop. Can this wait until Monday? Thank you!

Could it be caused by the red donut biscuits you feed him? I'm not to sure, but I'm sure that someone with much more knowledge than I can help you! I hope all goes well :D

The little Dougnut treats are red, yes, but he has been eating them for almost a year. I thought they would be digested by the time it reaches the intestines. Strange. Luckily i haven't seen more red poops after this morning.

I would get him into the vet today as an emergency!

The red in the poop could be blood tinged mucous, and if so your rabbit has internal bleeding somewhere in his digestive tract. There is also the fact that the poop is very malformed, and with it being watery and his other health issues, it could indicate a very serious health problem. He will likely need blood tests and possibly xrays done, in the least. It could even be that being on long term metacam has lead to the bleeding.

Your bunny needs a vet urgently

I agree with jbun and if it is that then he could be in a lot of trouble!
But I hope everything works out 😊

Thank you for all the advice. Little Albert is ok and fortunately the internal bleeding was ruled out. The Doc tested the stool and said it must been small pieces of his treats that were not probably chewed. I will probably never understand but he also said apart from the dental coming up next week and some long term meds for his arthritis and liver, there is nothing more that can be done. Ex Rays only in another three months( have taken some recently). Just keep the him as comfortable as possible at this age😥. Thank you for caring. This is a wonderful forum.

I'm glad that he is okay😊, at least he has a great home and an owner who cares about him and at his age that is exactly what they need❤️

So glad to hear he's doing okay! I was worried about him even though he's not mine. I think that's what makes this forum so great, we all care about one another's buns even if they're not ours! Us bun-parents gotta stick together. :)

I hope the dental work help out Albert and I also hope he continues to do well under his circumstances. ♥ Sending good vibes your and Albert's way!

Very glad to hear that Albert's poops weren't a sign of anything serious. :)

Thank you so much for all your kinds words.
I often wish we could have travelled to Europe or the US to get Albert treated there. I am sure there are so much more the doctors could do for him. Here in South Africa, they just say, it is a senior rabbit. Not much one can do for them. Very few people also keep rabbits as pets and normal resources are not freely available. Getting a hold of Critical Care can even become a problem. My sister from the Netherlands, usually brings Albert some treats, Critical care and new food to try. We love this Bunny to bits and will do anything for him. Thank you again for all your support!
