Hopefully it was just a temporary problem... maybe something stuck in her mouth/teeth/throat/nose.

I would ask the vet to do a thorough pre-exam prior to spaying.

Thanks Claire and Jim, these are very good suggestions. I will definitely tell the vet before the surgery...

I haven't actually booked her in yet so when I ring up about that maybe I will also mention this incident, see if they think we should put off the surgery for another week or what. but they may need to see her to decide I guess.

Hopefully she is all good and the surgery can go ahead because I want to start bonding her with my boy bunny when she has recovered. I'm getting impatient! (and my family are getting sick of a rabbit living in the bathroom lol)

I'm glad to hear that the bunny is okay! Sorry about your grandpa too :(

Is there something you can do to help a choking bunny, other than rush them to the vet? Like the bunny Heimlick maneuver? Now I'm going to worry about them choking on something...

Even if the rabbit doesnt APPEAR to be having problems I would still suggest taking the rabbit into the vets and getting her looked at. As they say, Rabbits are very good at hiding stuff. She could still have some underlining problems.

I've booked her in to be desexed on thursday. while she is under anesthetic they will check that there is nothing in her throat.

I can't wait to start bonding my boy and girl when she has recovered from the surgery. how long should I wait after her surgery before I start letting the rabbits be near each other... a week, two weeks?

A week? okay cool. I mean obviously it will depend how she seems to be doing... but a week as a guide is good to know. thanks. the timing couldn't be better, because 8 days after the surgery I should be finished all my essays for the semester so then I will have more time which can be spent bonding the bunnies.

I am excited, although nervous as well, to start bonding them! I really hope they become good friends without much trouble! Lopsy is such a nice gently bunny, but Lulu is a bit scared/feisty... but hopefully together they make a good couple. I'm hoping that with Lopsy with her, Lulu becomes more confident and trusts us more when she sees that Lopsy trust us.

anyway, thanks again and I will keep you up to date with how it goes on thursday.. and then with the bonding a week or so after that :)

you need to get the rabbit to a specialist,.they do not throw up,they do not have muscles to throw up,.what goes in must go all the way through,..they will however suffocte and die easily,..this sounds like a severeupper respiratory infection, this will require a physical-examination,and nasal culture to prscribe the proper antibiotic,..please keep us posted,..god speed ,sincerely james waller:pray:

Hi James... did you read the whole thread?

this happened last thursday night, she is fine now and it is tuesday for me here now.

thanks anyway.

I do know Rabbits, Rats and Horses are the only mammals (That I know of anyway) that can't vomit- stupid crazy thing i learned in animals science in Highschool . . .

Anyway, you'll have to keep us updated on the bonding next weekend/week

Well I have dropped Lulu off at the vet this morning... It won't be thursday morning yet for most of you, but it is here! Almost afternoon actually.

So now I wait and try to get some homework done! I will ring in a few hours and see how she is doing and find out when they want me to pick her up.

I hope she has no problems over the next few days.

The vet assistant rang to say that it all went well! yay. she asked if I wanted the tattoo in her ear so if she goes missing and someone finds her that they will know she has been desexed. I asked if it costed anything, she said no... so I said yes. I don't plan on showing her so I hope I made the right decision. I hate making decisions... Oh she also said it won't hurt her because she hasn't woken up yet.

I'll ring in another hour to find out if she is awake and when they want me to come back and get her.

third post in a row... with good news...

I brought Lulu home from the vet not long ago. obviously I knew that it was important that she starts eating... and within 5 minutes of being home she was eating grass and munching on some apple. so I am feeling good and relieved. not even surgery will get in the way of her eating! she loves food! I think she is my rabbit equivalent in this regard.

they gave me some supplement stuff to give her, which I'm hoping she'll drink up without needing a syringe. I didn't really see the actual vet but I spoke to a lady who I think must be something like the vet nurse. I asked her questions until I felt satisfied that I know what to do for the next few days. She said to put in shredded paper instead of hay for bedding because it will be better for her wound. and to keep her confined to restrict her movement for a few days. is this all sounding normal and routine?

Sounds like proper advice - don't want her to tear her sutures (hence, restricted movement - no jumping, etc)and shredded paper won't irritate or get in her sutures like hay might possibly - since the paper is softer, it will probably be more comfortable for her now until she heals up.

if you start a new topic saying that Lulu was spayed you will get more responses

a lot of people won't look when it is under another unrelated topic
OK? :)

Make sure she has hay, even if you don't put it in her pan. I haven't heard of that before, but it might make sense, since hay is poky and can be dusty. I don't think it's absolutely necessary, but you can do it if you want.

Definitely don't let her jump around for about a week. I'd keep her in a small cage where she can't even run for 2-3 days. Make sure to check on the incision/sutures every day.

I'm glad she's eating! Do you think the supplement will help control pain?

ok,now?? yes i will read the others,.i do tend to jump a bit due to the nature of the problem,..all is well that ends well,..sincerely james waller:)
