Rabbit behavior question

Why does my male rabbit smell/nip my female rabbit's rear end? I also saw him digging on her back fur. Is he hurting my other rabbit?

My male digs my female as well. They are still in the process of bonding so I'm not sure if it's a long term thing. I posted a similar question last week. One member believes that it could be related to the bunny being separated from it's litter/mom too soon and therefore it didn't develop full social skills. I know this happens with dogs, so I suppose maybe bunnies as well.
