Sorry, this will be a little long. My bunny, Pumpkin, who will be 3 in June, has malocclusion. We take him every two weeks to get his teeth trimmed. In November he began sneezing, no discharge or anything like that and we took him to the vet. He had an abscessed tooth and they removed it. He was on antibiotics after but still continued to sneeze and started to sound like a Geiger counter when he got home. I called the vet and she said he started doing that after he was knocked out and she checked his throat and everything was fine. We took him back to the vet for a follow up and she listened to his lungs and said they sounded clear and that he may have allergies and to give him Benadryl. We tried that but he continued to sneeze and when he got stressed he would begin to make the Geiger counter sound. We changed the filters in the house to the super allergen ones and he started to sound better and the sneezing drastically cut back.

We took him for his routine teeth trim on April 25. I dropped him off and received a call from the vet that they had to put him on oxygen because he was having difficulty breathing. We immediately returned and they let us back to see him. He was gasping for air and almost passed out and they tried to intubate him but couldn't so they just used the mask over his face. It was so scary!! I thought he was going to die right there. They took x-rays and his lungs were filled with fluid. He was put on Lasix and Enroflaxin. We got him home and he relaxed and started acting like his normal self within 12 hours. We took him back on May 5, and his lungs were about 50% better. The vet said she would send his x-rays to an exotic pet specialist to see what he thought. She called me and said that he thought it could be a diaphragmatic hernia or pneumonia. We continued the Lasix and Enroflaxin and took him back on May 11. His right lung was clear but the right side was still white on the x-ray and you could only see part of his left lung. He is scheduled for a barium swallow on May 19.

Has anyone had any experience with this? He acts completely normal in everyway except for the sneezing and the Geiger counter sound when he gets stressed and the abnormal x-ray. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm really hoping its not the hernia-I don't want him to have to have a surgery like that.

Thank you so much!
