As part of a deal with April here are six of my poems, if enough people want more I will share more and even maybe write some new ones.

[line]Stray Dogs
Stray dogs under a cloudy sky,
The ballads of the night surround them,
Fur and cloth they wear these skins,
Marking them under this baleful moon,
Tears and unformed words,
Break the cold night air,
A passing glance lends no more,
Companionship lost in their sorrow,
A moment lost in their own times,
As the world moves on,
The sounds of the worlds they left,
Harsh cries of men,
Turned to broken howls of dogs.
[line]Lucid Verse
because i'm a paper soldier
i walk the dark forgotten streets
and i hide in the stores from the rain
that washes away the dust that settles on our hearts
in the morning the drops remain clinging to boughs to survive
while a little paper soldier, blank of verse, marches steadily down the road
[line]Straight Talking
The sum of our lives, the sombre parade,
The gravedigger comes to ply his trade
An alto sax, with the sweet serenade
I don't know why, but it sticks to you
The smell of death, and the words so true
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, born so many but die so few
The undertaker joys, with the coming dusk,
A wealthy man but leaves a husk,
The waning light of life is brusque.
[line] Anima
When I was a child, I spoke as a child;
Words grew and blossomed,
their roots forming intricate patterns in my mind.
Praise shone all around and my mind grew strong.
Yet,

I understood as a child, I thought as a child;
Concepts shone like the stars and the moon,
Suspended in the aether of the mind.
I reached for them with all my strength
But

When I became a man I put away childish things.
The words that came so easily,
Withered without their praise,
Thoughts that shone suspended in the sky,
Fell and shattered from their crystal spheres.
For now

I see through a glass, darkly;
My heart, body, mind and soul tinted in it's light
With the knowledge I aspired to reach,
My lips find the words I once spoke,
To hold no truths, greater than a man.
Then

Face to face I see
That in part, all I know,
and all I speak,
is how I am known
[line]That Which Redeems
That which redeems
is that which consumes
Is the cost of innocence
the price of freedom?
Is pain the toll
for a longing heart?
Must we fall before
We gain faith?

We tread the fine line
of forbidden passions
The masses follow,
the blind leaders
To a merry tune
of a funeral march
[line]Long, Long Goodbye
Blue eyes, and grey skies,
We fight the dawn,
and strengthen the ties
That bind us drawn
and quartered
To hear our forlorn cry
but my voice falters
It's a long, long goodbye.

[line]Dilemma
(WARNING GRAPHIC)
The smell of blood,
It pools and dries,
Washed away
by an antiseptic word,
Still it remains
intangible yet familiar,
It doesn't clean so easily,
From the culprit spines,
I know,
I have tried.

As the warmth fades
the blood thickens,
Soon it will stop
scars will show,
and we'll grow cold,
again.

Reaching,
Grasping,
From urgency grows fear,
blossoming adrenaline spreads,
the hands clasp and the blood flows
warmth is shared and pain is felt
tears flow and the cry is harsh
but we pull away,
caught in our dilemma.

[line]The Lemon Tree

They say that it has to go,
That it is a danger to society,
Bu I know deep within my heart,
That it is just stretching out.
I remember when my grandmother and I planted it,
She showed me how to water it,
And when the time came,
How to pick the fruit.
Over the years as I have grown
It has grown with me
I remember my first kiss
Under the shade of its branches
I remember falling and breaking my arm
As soon as that cast was of I was back up in that tree
We cut away all the spikes,
Little children picked the lemons
Selling them under the shade of the lemon tree
"Cool glass of lemonade sir, only fifty cents"
My grandmother died
We spread her ashes under the tree
The tree took on new life,
As if her soul had just entered the tree.
But now they are destroying her
Killing her
Last night I snuck over there
I took the last lemon of the season
I have planted it now,
Where the old lemon tree was
She now lives on
Not only in memory but in soul.
[line]Rose
Falling into a world i forgot
Where the sun is bleak
And the sky is grey
Where i walk without direction
Breathe without reason
And dance to a silent tune
The masses grow
Dark eyes staring to the heavens
As the tears grow and fall
To the earth like the pelting rain
And a rose grows from the torrent
A single red amongst a land of grey
But the masses move on
And nothing remains
[line]Life
Inside of your embrace
I fell into temptation
The apple fell
And the seeds grew
We did it here
We created life
Facing scorn
Facing hatred
You ask us why
We broke your law
But we created life
And you take it away

Oh wow - these are really good Dave - we need to thank April for making you post these. You are very talented.

I'll write something new... Something happier... I promise...

[line]Pipers Tune
The rain catches
Like our youth
On boughs of trees
And washes away
The silent armies
Fallen in the streets
That fill our minds
They bow their heads
As the piper plays
A somber tune
The blood flows
Like the notes
Caressing the water
Mingling and reddening
The blood of two worlds
[line]Fall from Grace
The broken cross
Lies at her feet
The splinters stick
In her hands
Her broken faith
A fall from grace
A life unlived
As the notes drift
From her lips
A soft waltz
Of insanity
As the walls crumble
And fall around her
She stands
A world that is ending
The fate of destruction
But in her eyes
The joy of rebirth [line]Spero
These lips keep saying goodbye
As you walk out the door
But the words are still caught in my throat
And the tears wash you from my eyes
Time flows past me
As I hold my breath
And these fears at bay
One more moment
And one more second
But it doesn't last
And I watch you drive away
And in my mind I pray
While I breathe
I hope [line]Circles
We play with circles in the dust,
Clap our hands and they fade away,
Like childhood fantasies,
Caught on the breath of life,
We watch them as they burn,
Ashes against the failing sun.
