I went to the Zoo, again! This time, I went to the Detroit Zoo in Michigan. I wasn't expecting much (the word "Detroit" kind of set me up for failure). It was a wonderful zoo! It was very big, lovely enclosures, and a lot of animals that the Milwaukee Zoo doesn't have! I took pictures... A lot of pictures. I will probably only post one of each animal (unless I can't choose). So, enjoy the pictures, everyone! :)

Birds
The first set of pictures (marked with asterisks) are native bird species that just happened to settle in areas of the zoo.

Przewalkski's Horse
Just a little information on this animal (and why I was super-excited to see one again): The Przewalksi's horse is considered to be the last of the truly "wild" horses. They were considered extinct in the wild for over 30 years. Thanks to captive breeding programs and reintroducing a few herds back into the wild, they were taken off of the "extinct in the wild" list, and were placed on the "critically endangered" list. It doesn't seem like a big leap, but at least there are some back in the wild.

lol! Trust me! You don't want to go to Detroit! :p It's scary there. The Detroit Zoo isn't actually in Detroit, Michigan. Yeah, I can't figure that one out, either. It's actually in Royal Oak, Michigan, and it's not scary there! :p We actually missed the amphibian house while we were there. :( We walked the whole zoo, but missed that building. Their polar bear exhibit is monstrous! The polar bears have a huge tundra area to walk around on, and then they have fake ice stuff, and a swimming pool that you can see underwater from a viewing area. The seals have a tube that goes through their water pool, so you can walk through it and have seals swimming around you! :) I guess they've been reworking it a lot lately, so their exhibits are awesome!

Looks like a blast! Makes me want to go visit the Sacramento Zoo again, which is in our area. I've always dreamed of going to the San Diego Zoo. Anywho, great pictures!

Thanks for sharing. :)

:inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove:

I'm hopping in 2 years I might be able to make a trip to the US and I guess this might be 1 place I would like to see. Then off to NY. Not that I like Polar Bears ;)

I went earlier in May to the Detroit Zoo--did they still have the Dino exhibit? I am a dinosaur nerd and really liked that!

Kathy

They still had the Dino exhibit, but we didn't go there. We only had 5 hours, and I wanted to see the "living" exhibits, otherwise I would have been all over that! :p

I don't know why the polar bears are at either zoo. Milwaukee has always had them (as long as I can remember), and Detroit just got theirs. Will's brother-in-law might have said something about a possible breeding program? I don't remember. They spent a lot of money making that huge exhibit, though!

It's funny. I can stare at animals all the time, and still not be bored of them. Will gets bored of them. I am one of those people who can sit at one exhibit and watch the animals for awhile. It is interesting to see how they move, what they do, and just watching them interact with other animals. I want to go to zoos in each state... Or at least go to the well-known ones. :)

I'd love to visit all the zoos in the world on a round the world trip lol! It would be great! but Australia zoo is one I must visit at some point!
