If I wanted to buy a home for my rabbit what would you recomend a hutch or a cage. I have both but I don't know wich one is better.:dutch

Moved to the Rabbits Only Forum.:)

As for my opinion, I keep my rabbits inside. And the bigger the cage the better. Actually, if you want an indoor bunny home, don't buy one that's made for bunnies. They're almost always too small, even for little dwarf rabbits. Try a big dog crate or a dog exercise pen with something underneath for the floor. Or build a cage with wire shelving grids.

Check this thread for lots of examples of cages, hutches, etc.

I agree! Every time I walk past a pet shop I cringe at the cages that are advertised specifically for rabbits...usually they have barely enough room for a rabbit of small stature to move around. I just wish they'd promote more cage space for animals as active and large as bunnies.

Personally, I keep my two rabbits in a combination. In the wintertime they come indoors and stay in cages, but have designated time periods where they are free to roam the house (a bit more difficult to do these days with Raph, as he 'sprays', so I inevitably wind up following him around with cleaning supplies and a mop...Anna, on the other hand, is a very clean, dainty rabbit, a joy to have indoors). On milder winter days they get to romp in the snow as well, though just for short periods as they haven't had a chance to develop a good winter coat. In the summer I keep them in outdoor cages, only bringing them inside when the temps and/or humidity soar. And again, they have designated 'out-of-cage' runs...usually 3 hours or so in the evenings, and more on the weekends (though this week they've been enjoying at least twice that much time running about the yard, as I've been off from work). I find that with these two rabbits it has worked out fine. I guess it's just a matter of personal taste as to how you wish to keep your bunny. You'll get lots of ideas from the link that Naturestee posted for different types of rabbit housing. :)

Good thinking, Naturestee, in providing the cage photo phile.

We built NIC cube cages for each of our bunnies. It was really inexpensive (compared to other cages that were smaller than the ones we built), and they can be designed with so much creativity! You can build them any shape, any size, any design you can think of!

Here is a thread where a member here named Trixie Rabbit typed out instructions on how to build one.

I used the same floor with the linoleum tiles, except that I adhered them to pegboard, and I used pegboard on the two additional levels on my buns' cages. Both work GREAT!

Here's another site, taken from the Rabbit 101 section on this site, that includes MANY great references on cages. NIC cages are also called cavy cages.

Enjoy all the references, and check out what else Rabbit 101 has to offer!
