hi! i am curious if people are using organic rabbit feed for their rabbits. if so, what brand?

i have found oxbow and ecotrition. i was thinking about combining the 2 for my feed unless anyone has a better option.

thank you for any input! clearly i am a newbie. :biggrin2:

The Oxbow Organic is an excellent food ;I don't know about the ecotrition.
I have used the organic Oxbow pellet with my dental patient rabbit. I would use it exclusively, however , it is expensive .

I fully support the Oxbow brand in general, though I feed their regular pellets, not the organic. I'm sure they're great pellets.

I feed Oxbow Organic Rabbit thanks to Angieluv's suggestion. My rabbits love them! They are expensive and hard to find though. Not sure if you have a Pet Supplies Plus or a Pet People store near you but both carry them in my area.

thanks for the input! oxbow it is then. it is expensive but it will be worth it. i contacted the company to attempt to purchase a larger size than the 3 pound however, at this time that is the only size they manufacture. i will probably go to a mom and pop pet store and see if they can order it for me.

in case anyone is interested organic alfalfa pellets may be found here: http://www.agriculturesolutions.com...ic-Alfalfa-Pellets-50-Lb-bag/flypage.tpl.html

ecotrition is sold at petsmart and of course on their website here: http://www.petsmart.com/product/ind...-C881-DE11-B712-001422107090&mr:referralID=NA

oxbow organic may be purchased here: http://www.strictlypetsupplies.com/_744845710006-Oxbow-Organic-Rabbit-Diet

the ecotrition organic has a 16% protein, the oxbow organic has 12% and the organic alfalfa pellets i found have 15% protein.

after some consideration i believe i will mix my adult food 4 parts ecotrition organic to 3 parts oxbow organic. if anyone can find another organic alfalfa pellet that is higher in protein i would enjoy hearing about it.

hope this helps!

One of the only reasons a pellet is necessary (other than for young growing rabbits or pregnant does) is that they contain trace vitamins and minerals whihch indoor rabbits may not be getting .
This alfalfa pellet unlike Oxbow ( or another good brand plain pellet )is nothing but compressed alfalfa..no other ingredients, no vitamins and minerals.

This food should not be fed alone ..

here is another good brand pellet
Notice the vitamins and minerals at the bottom of the page

Do you have a price on the modesto milling pellets? Do they have a minimum order? With only 2 young dwarf rabbits I only need one large bag unless I want to freeze a lot of it.

I love the ingredients of the oxbow organic but the cost and small bag size is an issue. I was debating mixing it with oxbow's regular pellets to get some of the benefits of the flaxseed and other ingredients in the organic pellets while cutting the cost a little.

you may order it by the 25# and 50# sack. the 50# was $19.99 + $43 to ship to philly from california. i hate paying more for shipping however, this comes to $1.26/lb. much better than the $3-$4 a lb for oxbow or ecotrition.

additionally, i have begun researching local feed mills for a certified organic mill that is closer to me that makes rabbit pellets. i would rather drive a couple hours, purchase a couple bags and vacuum seal them than pay for the shipping. but i ordered a bag because i need one NOW!

i will update you with my local findings. if anyone else wants to call organic mills in their states you may find this website useful  :
