there was a mention of colors and how to get them on another thread but i don't want to hijack it.
Howie had the coloring of a wild buny, brown fur witha lighter undercoat and a cream/white colored belly, except for one little white spot on his front foot he had the exact coloring of the wild bunnies i see around our new home.
Could he have had a touch of wild rabbit in him? he was a lionhead.
 
Not from any American species of wild rabbit. The color (chestnut agouti)is the dominant "original"color of the European wild rabbit, which your rabbit is descended from.
 
All domestic rabbit breeds descend from the European wild rabbit. They're a different species than the rabbits that are native to North America. So they can't crossbreed with jack rabbits or cottontails, etc.
