NIC panels?

I was looking at the NIC panels because I may take this routefor a play area, don't know if I should just get a pen or make my own but why do you guys call them NIC panels or cages? Aren't they just wire shelving cubes too? I'm a little on the confused side.

Nevermind - I found out what it means, I guess I should have done some more researching before asking this question...oh well.
