I posted the other day that i found a bunny and took it in. well it was in a small cardboard box the first 2 days that is all I had...He was in my closet where it was quite and dark.. He or she was eating, pooping and urinating fine.. My sister in law brought me her kennel to put him in so he would be safe since I do have 3 cats..But since I put it in the cage he or she hasn't eaten much and I can't find this morning where it has urinated and only pooped a pill or two...It did this the first day I found him but buy the second day he was eating good. I have the cage covered with a sheet thinking he would feel safe...but it is still bright in there...he has eaten a few carrots and some pellets...but he had been eating everything I put in there.. Could this be from moving him?? Remember he was hurt when I took him in..but has been moving around a lot...Thanks for your help..

I doubt if moving him would cause the problem :?

At some point you are going to need to get him to the vet because if he will not allow you to examine him you really have no idea how severe the injury is and really cannot even do self care on him.
It is possible that he is in pain; rabbit tend to hide pain well.

I would take this bunny to the vet asap. Get him/her checked out to see if anything is wrong. As angieluv said this bunny could be in pain and they hide pain really well as they are prey animals. It is their survival technique.

Well I am sorry but I can't take him to a vet.. I just don't have the money. So what do I do? I could take him to the humane society but they will just put him to sleep.. I don't know what to do!:cry1:

I put some hay in the cage and it is chewing something..and looks like it has some of the pellets..I have got to remember this rabbit has been living outside loose not caged for 2 years or more..Eating off what it could find..I don't know where it got water during the dry times where there was no water in the ditches. This morning it was making a popping noise. I thought it was chewing on the cardboard box ( is cardboard box bad?)I had put in there and put some of that corn cob litter in it..but she was sitting there with it's back legs making them hop in the air but not moving?? So she can move the back leg that is hurt some...I just don't know what to do??

It could be because of the move, some bunnies don't like change.

Can you get some Baby Ovol (for gas) and give him some of that. Also if you can hold him and rub his tummy in case he has gas. I'd be a little careful about giving him too many carrots. Have you tried parsley either theItalian or the curly type. All of mine like parsley.

Good Luck

Susan:)

I just read about the corn cob litter, not good. I used it on Buttercup years ago, he ate alot of it and got very chubby, same as Wilbur & Jackie. Can you get wood stove pellets. Very cheap I pay about $6.00 for 40 pounds. Corn is not good for bunnies to eat alot of. Buttercup loves corn on the cob. Maybe he will get a small piece once the peaches and cream corn is available. Very small. I figure since he's almost 13 (Senior Citizen Bunny) he deserves.:biggrin2:

I can't hold her at all too scared... I am going to take all carrots out and put some fresh parsley in there...try that...I may be over feeding her . She may be just full..Is the hay good to keep in there? Thanks for your help! I am so worried about the bunny..

She's beautiful.:inlove:

You are an Angel:bunnyangel2: for what you are doing for her. Wow that's a great setup she has.

She's one lucky Bunny and i'm sure she knows it too. Have you gotten a Bunny kuss from her yet? Just wait, Bunny Kisses are the best kisses in the world.

Susan:)

Thanks for asking angieluv..She is doing great!! She is like a new bunny this morning...she is pulling the hurt leg under her more and more everyday...She has started coming up to me and smelling me...Eating good and lordy she is peeing a lot!!
I wish I knew if she was a boy or girl..LOL
I am calling it a girl...My daughter calls her Panda(she looks like a panda bear) but I call her Honey Bunny...She is so sweet!
I found out from a neighbor that she and the solid black bunny were someones Easter bunnies and they got tired of them and threw them out..This was 5 years ago. So the fact they have survived outside in the wild for that long is a miracle!! There are two or three solid black bunnies still running around..Poor things...Thanks..

Can you see if you can catch these bunnies and maybe find them good homes if you cannot keep them? Domestic rabbits as you know cannot make it in the wild.

It is a miracle that this bunny you have now has made it in the wild for 5 years, WOW.

Glad she/he is doing better!

The other bunnies were born in the wild and have never been around humans..They are as wild as wild bunnies..The one I caught had been a pet at one time...even so if she had not hurt her leg I would have never been able to catch her...I called the humane society and told them about them but they didn't do anything...

Can you touch her leg at all? See if there are any sore spots that she reacts to having touched? Why do you think the Humane Society would just have her euthanized? Are the cats harassing her through the bars of the cage? For some rabbits just seeing a predator like a cat and being unable to run away is scary and can make them have GI problems or even a heart attack. If she is in a lot of pain from a broken leg or something and nobody is able to afford vet care, it may be the nicest thing to do to have her put to sleep. Living with unbearable pain can be very hard on them. There are also over-the counter pain medicines we can help you determine the dose for if you don't think her leg is broken--more of a sprain-type injury.

OK talked to the vet and have a lot of red flags. No pain meds because rabbits are to sensitive for them!! She has to be fasted because even though she can not vomit there is still a risk of regurgitating!!!!! Note: the vet doing the surgery is a specialist and he is only in on Mondays so I will be talking to him. But I really don't like this.
