I plan on posting this in the regional section as well, it was just suggested that I try here too because it gets the most views.

I have a little dilemma. I recently moved from California to Texas and I need a sitter for my rabbit over Christmas to visit family. I have a small VW Jetta and there just isn't enough room for everyone. My rabbit, Mason, doesn't like to travel much either and he doesn't have a cage at my Mom's house, so I think it's best that I find him a place to stay local. Does anyone, by chance, live around here? The Navy hasn't told us when we'll be free to leave yet, but it's going to be a 7-8 day span between the 18th of Dec and the 1st of January, definitely over Christmas Eve and Day. I don't want to leave Mason with just anyone, he's my baby and I don't want to be worried my entire trip. I wouldn't be if I found someone here I trusted :) He has a C&C cage, he's litter box trained, not neutered, easy going, and he's about 7. He's pretty easy to care for. If I can't find someone here, I'm going to call around to local kennels, shelters, and vets.

Thanks!

You could ask a rabbit savvy vet if they know of anyone who does it and has rabbit knowledge. Some vets do offer boarding.
Check out local classifieds websites like Kijiji or Craigslist. Some pet sitters to advertise. You could also post too. You would have to interview any potential people and get references.

Hey everyone, I'm really sorry I never replied. Shortly after making this thread, Mason got really sick. He stopped eating and had to be taken to the vet. The first vet sent him home with meds and eye drops, but 3 days later, he still wasn't doing well. Took him to another vet, one that had a small animal specialist (I was told the first one did, but it was misinformation), and he stayed for 5 days. He's doing wonderful now, he made it! I'm going to try and put all of my animals cages into my car for the trip home. I'm about to shower, but when I get out, I'm going to see how it works out. I had an idea, not sure if it will work though.

I'll be back with the update!

I'm so glad to hear Mason is feeling better. Poor little guy sounds like he had it rough for a few days.

Mason is a Gorgeous Bunny. I love that picture of him. :inlove:

Thank You :) Mason is very excited to be home and he loves the compliments :D

So I tried really hard and can't get all of the cages into the car. I'm going to try 1 more option before asking my neighbor to animal sit while I'm gone. I posted an Ad on Craigslist to see if anyone had a certain type of carrier cage for my chins and someone replied that a local Farm and Ranch Supply Store has them, so I'm going to check it out today. My neighbor said she would be happy to do it, it's just a long time to be away from my critters. It's 24 hours each way of driving though, not sure if it's worth the stress on them.

I could watch the bun for you I am in houston a little out of the way but it could work if you really needed it to. Sense your driving anyway.

I am very appreciative of your offer, I just don't think we have time to drive out of the way, we're going to be cutting it really close. I also just found out that my girl chinchilla might be in heat, so housing them next to each other (2 boys and 1 girl) is out of the question :( Looks like I'll be leaving my rabbit and 3 chinchillas with my neighbor, 2 days ago she offered to watch them. Thank you so much for all your help everyone :D

I'm glad your neighbor offered to watch them.

You might try giving her a link to the forum in case she has any bunny questions.

Have a safe trip!

Definitely. I was going to ask her, but figured she would be gone for Christmas (her family lives in another state). A few nights ago she just asked me if I needed a sitter, out of the blue :)

Good idea :) I'm also going to be on 24 hour standby in case of any emergency (my phone goes with me everywhere). The small animal vet is about 2 miles away too, I'll be calling them to give them my approval for emergency visits.

Thank You! We're hoping we don't hit any major rain or snow.
