This is not for the litter box my bunnies use. It is for a hutch I made for them. I want to use kitty litter in the bottom drawer which is 8-10 inches below that will catch spills. They will never come into direct contact with the kitty litter. What would you recommend.

Thanks

Depends what kind of litter you're after
A lot of people here use Wood stove pellets, those are a much much much cheaper version of Pine kitty litter pellets like "Feline Pine" or the newspaper version "Yesterdays news".

If you want a clumping style, stick with something natural like "sWheat Scoops" or "Worlds Best" Wheat, Corn, etc.... DO NOT USE CLAY OR SAND BASED LITTER. Even for your cats! Even 8-10" away clay litter is still potentially lethal to your animals.

Thanks. That is what is the info I was looking for. I will have to figure out where I can buy wood stove pellets. Currently in Canada.

Thanks

Yup that will work.

Wood stove pellets, or alternatively Horse stall pellets, are usually half the price.

I usually got them at Walmart, but they seem to be more seasonal there, odd seasonal.... I was there today and where they would normally be is a Mass amount of Halloween and Christmas stuff, so I'm guessing when they get rid of the costumes they will have room to put out a pallet of wood stove pellets.
I don't see them on walmarts website right now so.... not sure there.

Canadian tire has them.

Home Depot has them.

Always check the bag of whatever you buy. Ensure the company doesn't add accelerant. And make sure there is no Cedar wood in the mix.
The CrappyTire ones appear to be of a Hardwood mixture. The HomeDepot ones are a softwood (cedar is a softwood) but state on the page that they are spruce/pine so that is good as well.

Lowes would likely have them.
Even Superstore might have them, they kind of have everything too....
Feed stores may have either or the Horse stall, cat litter, or wood stove pellets.
Home Hardware.

Just don't accidentally buy the flavour pellets for smoking meat, not that they would be dangerous, but their kind of expensive when you consider youll be letting your rabbit pee on Hickory or Applewood :p

Thanks. I looked online at Costco, Petsmart & Walmart. Saw the applewood ones. And yes they are expensive. I will look at Lowes, Home Depot does not have them at my store in Lethbridge. But the Canadian Tire are 5.99. Now I know what I am looking for.

MANY Thanks Again,
Barb

Lots of stores should be carrying them, its just whos been smart enough to stock them BEFORE it gets really cold.

It doesn't look like you have a buckerfields, but it does look like you have a Co-op. South Country Co-op or something of the sort (not the gas bar haha... although....) should have something along the lines of horse or the wood stove ones.

Just ask around. Especially since you guys actually get cold weather unlike us, everyone should have wood stove pellets.
