Need Help! Riley has torn off one of his nails...

Hopefully, this is a minor. Must have happened in the last 15 minutes. His toe is not bleeding right now, but the area looks raw. Anything I can put on it? Any thing else I need to know?

Poor Riley! I'm sure that someone else will be along with more info, but I would cleanse the wound and then put some Neosporin on it. Be sure it is the regular stuff and not the kind with pain reliever in it. Keep an eye on it and if it starts to look inflamed, then a vet visit would be in order.

Agreed with Patti. If it starts bleeding again use flour, cornstarch, or styptic powder to stop it.

Fiona ripped out a nail this summer. I took her into the vet where I was working and came home with some animax for it. It bled quite a bit at first but she didn't seem to mind it unless I touched it. The nail has since grown back fairly normally.
