Well in short my cat Lucy scratched my 14week old puppies eye and its serious.
The vet is really concerned is pupil isn't dilating properly even when given atropine. He's been put on antibiotics and anti-inflammatorys and they have kept him in for the day and will check it out later on and see if there has been any improvement.
However they have told us their is a good chance he may need eye surgery to remove the lens as the cats claw has punctured the eye.
We are lucky that the eye specialist just happened to be in today and has looked at Marleys eye for us and will monitor it through the day.
The cat better hope it doesn't need surgery or she can donate her bloody eye lens to my puppy.
I'm so mad and upset i keep crying and I know I shouldn't be mad at her its not her fault she's a cat but i'm still mad.
He's only a baby this is just ***************************
:(:bigtears:

Oh no, Lara! I'm sorry to hear that! Poor little Marley, I hope he doesn't need surgery. I'll keep him in my thoughts. And try not to be too hard on Lucy, I'm sure she didn't mean it.

UPDATE: we just picked him up from the vet they managed to get his eye to dilate and they could see the lens, it looked good like the puncture hadn't read there. It has however gone through the cornea so he's on a combo of medications. He goes back in a week and they'll check his eye out again.
So hopefully its going to be fine, I can actually breathe again!!!!!! I'm so relieved I was so worrried, although we arn't out of the woods yet its a better prognoises then what they originally thought.

Lucy is going to the vet tomorrow to have her nails clipped. I also think we may have her put on some sort or medication. Maybe a sedative or something like taht to see if we can calm her down a bit

Bad kitty! ;)

Have you ever thought of getting those little plastic tips that you can glue onto cats nails so they cant scratch? That might help things in the future.

Im so glad your puppy is ok. Keep us posted

Poor puppy! Hope his eye heals well

Yes, I'd definitely look into Soft Paws. BTW, I clip my cats' nails at home all the time.

Was Lucy trying to play with the puppy? Because cats play with their claws, especially when their playmate is a rambunctious young dog, and while they instinctively keep their eyes guarded against flying paws, dogs won't always do the same.

If not, have you considered the possibility that Lucy is stressed and upset by the addition of a new family member? Cats are so sensitive and changes in the environment should be made with that in mind. Does she still have places in the house that are all hers? Perhaps a room with a gated doorway that she can enter and the puppy cannot? Having her food, litterbox and resting places away from the dog will really help to diminish her stress levels.

:hug2: to you. It stinks when our babies get hurt.

Unfortunetly it isn't play, I feel it is jelousy rearing its ugly head. She owns the whole of the upstairs and the laundry however he HAS stealing her food!!! We have a baby gate but he can still fit through it!!!!!!!!
The hardest part is that Lucy is a very timid and well insane creature she's already on 6monthly injections to help calm her down as she has always been so sensitive. I have tried feliway difuser on her area but It doesn't seem to help.

I will try and find those caps, i'm definetly going to cut her nails. I will talk to my work today (i work at a vet clinic) and see if there is anything else I can give her that may help her relax a little.
I

really want her to be happy, I really want them to at the least 'exist' in the same house. Everything was going so well its been 5-6 weeks now and its very readily gone down hill.
She realised she could dominate him and its like its gone to her head and she's becomming increasingly aggressive.
So now i'll have to launch a fully attack... OPERATION:CALM LUCY THE H*** DOWN;)

I would try to put the cat food up higher somewhere where the cat can get to it, but the puppy can't. Cat food is way too rich for dogs and it can make them sick.

When we had a cat and dogs at the same time, the cat always ate on the counter.
