Orchid recently asked if my avatar was a Chinese Crested. And yes, that is our PoGo.
We have two that are ours and one that is a foster. My husband and I are active in Crest-Care which is the national breed rescue for Chinese Cresteds. So right now, we have three little balls of nakedness running around.
This was Tater. We lost him in July. Tater was the dog that brought us into Crest Care. He was our first baby. We only had him for 4 1/2 years, but I could have had him for 40 and it still wouldn't have been enough. He was AT LEAST 10 when we got him. It was very hard to tell as he was a puppy mill survivor. He was my heart dog. He was the dog I had been waiting my entire life to have. My heart still aches for him.
This is PoGo (my avatar). PoGo came to us as a foster, but never left. He turned 5 in October. He came in as a 6 month old, compeltely unsocialized, puppy. He was a mess. He barked at EVERYTHING and his barking continued for about 45 minutes. Nothing could calm him down. He still barks when people come over, but now quiets when we tell him to. He's such an amazing little guy.
Here he is as a baby:
And here he is now:
And this is Leo. Leo came in with his mom as a rescue, and again, never left us. He will be 2 in January. Leo and his mom, Puffy, were from a puppy mill bust and were both very sick, so the humane society called me and said that they would have no choice but to euthanize them unless a rescue took them. So I was there within the hour. They were a disaster. Filthy and frightened. Leo was only 6 weeks old and just terrified. Puppy smelled so bad and just cowered from me.
So here is Leo. He was a lion for Halloween and the hood kept falling over his eyes, so he would just put his head down. We were cracking up!
Here he is with PoGo. PoGo was a ghost.
Puffy is now in a fanstastic home by one of my old coworkers and is spoiled ROTTEN. She is a powder puff and just so pretty! We actually are baby sitting her right now as her mommy is out of town. One of the perks of having your rescue close by is that you can baby sit them! She is the only one that we have adopted to in state....it's sad... But here is Puffy at my 30th B-day last year.
