We have anadorable 14 mth old NetherlandDwarf named Bilbo. Fora year he slept freein our bedroom. Wehad food, water and aspare litterbox. But Bilbowould never use thislitterbox and would alwayswait until morning togo in his box inthe spare bedroom. Weleave him there duringthe day, uncaged, and otherthan a rare accidenthe always pees in hisbox of pine shavings. He also roams free athis leisure in the backyard.
About4 months agowe made a change insleeping arrangements. We foundhe would beup andreadytoplayvery earlyand we were becomingsleep deprived. So weput him in his roomat bedtime and notours. Everything went wellfor the first twomonths but now herefuses to use thelitterbox and will peeright beside it butnot in it. Wewipe it up and putit in the box hopingto retrain him but itis not working. Thebox is cleaned 2-3times weekly.
We hate the thoughtof caging him upbecause he has alwayshad free range. Canthat be the problem? Is he too free? Howdo we retrain ?
Thanks, Rick and Cindy
