A friend of mine's horses died this winter so she has about 100 square bales of hay left over, I picked up 3 today. I gave one too a friend with a rabbit and have 2 in my shed. How long does hay stay good? It smells wonderful still and my minivan now smells wonderful(I have 4 kids and 2 dogs so it often smells bad lol)

We had a very dry year last year so it was never rained on. The farmers are trying too cut hay this year bit the rain will not stop!! LOL

If stored properly, hay can last a while. It is supposed to last from at least September to around June (from the last crop until they can be put back onto grass or the first crop of hay the next year).
If it still smells good and isn't moldy or anything, then it should be fine. You might find that the edges are a bit yellow, that is ok and should not be in the whole bale.
