I noticed Pip making funny movements yesterday. For example when he would go to scratch his cheek with his back foot, it looked like he was struggling to get it up there. And when he would get up it looked like a struggle too and looked strange. I had a vet appointment booked already so i asked teh vet about it when i got there but he started acting normal so she thought it might have been a "dead leg" like we get sometimes if we sit on it for too long.

He and Merry also got their vaccinations that day and the vet said that they'd probably feel a little sick and grumpy like we usually do when we get ours. Well today, later in the afternoon i noticed he was doing the same thing again and would stay in the same spots for hours. I saw him try to get in the litter tray but it seemed to be a struggle so he just sat next to it instead. I got some fresh hay and put it beside him because i didn't know if he was just being lazy or if there really was something wrong with him.

He had hardly eaten anything, but did eat when i put hay right infront of him, and i realised that he wouldn't have had much water because he hadn't really moved, so i got a bottle and put it in front of him to see if he would drink, and he did. I was trying to encourage him to move around, i sat down and massaged him bum area and the sides of his legs in case he had a dead leg and just needed to move around or something. Then i started to nudge his bum gently and he finally moved. He was right next to the hutch so he hopped up there. Then he moved again and hopped into the litter tray where i saw him doing a poo or a pee, couldn't actually see what he was doing of course but assumed he was doing both. The he hopped away and i checked to see what he had done and this is what came out of his bum...

I'm linking the pic because if i shrink it you can't really see it properly. It's gross so if you have a weak stomach don't look lol. It's a turd. But it looks snotty and also it looke like is was supposed to be a cecal but a hard poo was stuck to it, or a cecal that went hard. I squished it slightly with the tissue cause i couldn't tell if it was a cecal or hard pellets, and they are still someone soft on the outside but had obviously started to get hard while they were still inside him. Or were they hard ones that started to go soft? It looks like 1 long piece in the pic because i squished it a little but it was little poops stuck together when i first picked it up.

Constipated poo?

So i think i know that him moving funny in an uncomfortable looking way has something to do with his poo and im wondering if its constipation. He doesn't move around much and will eat if i bring him food as well as drink if i bring it to him, but otherwise, unless i encourage him to move, he just sits there. He hasn't been grinding his teeth so im not sure he's in pain. I'm worried he's going to go into gi stasis, or maybe he's already there?

Any suggestions or insight?

There was no teeth grinding, which lead me to believe he wasn't in any kind of pain, but i think that maybe he was constipated because once he did that poo, he started getting back to his normal self and didn't move around in an uncomfortable looking way any more.

I took him to the 24hr vet last night who also happens to be a small animal specialist and they gave him the all clear. They could hear his gut working normally, his physical examination went well and they concluded that his sluggishness and weird poo was a result of the vaccination.

Today he seems back to his normal self, moving around, marking things and getting back into his usual routine so hopefully it was just the effects of the vaccination.
