I sometimes use Hairball remedy for cats if Icant get canned pumkin or fresh pineapple. A pea sized amount on thefront paw usually does the trick.

canned pineapple probably isnt very good becauseof the high sugar content without the good chemical that freshpineapple has.

Pineapple is a very sugary fruit, and fresh pineapple has I thinkbromin in it to help dissolve the mucus in the hairball to make iteasier to pass through the intestines. So if you give thecanned pineapple, they are getting all that extra sugar without thebenefits of the bromin.

Ohhh...well, I guess Peppy's just a sugar addict like myself :p

No one in my household likes pineapple so I figure why buy a big fresh one when its gonna rot before Peppy can eat it all....:?

You can get cut up pineapples fresh in manygrocery stores. Most have a salad bar that has freshpineapple you can buy by the slice! That way you can get onlyenough for a couple of days.

Oh, you mean like they would sell them at a Delior something? I could look there, I just figured you guys were buyingthe big whole pineapples :?

I know they have little tupperwares full of freshpinapple at WalMart. Right over by the salads and whatnot. There isn'ta whole ton in it, so it should stay long enough for you to use it, andif I remember right is was only around $2. ;)

I use the dehydrated papaya, because bo doesn'tlike the fresh pineapple. I kind of wonder if he would eat itif I actually sliced it myself. It seems a bit dryer that way.

He loves the canned pineapple, but it isn't worth the sugar. I'd rather give him a banana slice or something.

I use both dried papaya and driedpineapple. Both can contain sulphites and added sugar, but Ifigure the pluses outweigh the minuses. I have been able tofind dried pineapple without sulphites and sugar on occasion, but fewand far between.

Hi Varna. No we don't seem to be able to getcanned pumpkin in the UK. I have tried health stores, supermarkets, specialist shops - thay all just look at me like I'm crazy. The onlything I did come across was a pumpkin and rice baby food mix (allblended together). I don't know if this would work (anyone?). I givePernod and Perry dried papaya, and after the initial "what rubbish isthis" look, they now love it - Jan

GOOD question on the baby food bit..when I was inTaiwan and Jaden was very very ill-she had a major blockage that I hadto take her in for once weekly shots-the vet suggested high fiber babyfood. Pumpkin and prunes along with some veggies (all with low sugartoo boot!) were syringed into the poor little girl in order to get somemovement out of her.

The real question I suppose we would both acquire the answer to is-Does baby food pumpkin have that enzyme that canned would?

But doesn't the dried pineapple lose it's bromelin or whatever it is?

We have a store called WILD OATS and I can get the non-sulph. dried fruits there. It's an organic grocery.

You could also use frozen pineapple,i readfreezing doesnt detroy the enzymes and then it wouldnt spoil.Breedersof jersey woolies reccomend papaya tablets.bluebird
