Hi all,

My husband was carrying Dimi in from outside to her x-pen. We do this all the time, and have never had an issue. This time, she was in a hurry to jump back in, and jumped from his arms. He tried to hold her by the hips so she wouldn't fall so hard, but she landed head first. He brought her to me on the bed (her happy place with me). She was moving around just fine, but very agitated. She let me pet her, but when I tried to cuddle her, she turned on me aggressively and growled. We had her out in the front room with us last night. She is eating her veg and hay like crazy- no problems there. And she is pooping/peeing. I really thought she was find last night, as she hopped around a lot. She is angry at my husband, and thumps if he comes near. She is cleaning herself as normal, and even did a bunny flop for me. What concerns me is that when she rests, she normally likes to kick out her back legs to a full stretch out. She was not doing that last night, and when I checked her this morning, still not doing it. She lies down with front legs out, but not the back ones (although she hops around fine, and can/does thump). I petted gently down her spine, and when I get to the area right by where her spine meets her tail, she jumps away and gives me the evil eye.

Our vet opens in 1.5 hr, but it is a group, and I don't think the one that handles rabbits will be in. I will be calling them when they open. My super specialist, out of town, is not open Saturdays, and refers to a general emergency vet where we did not have a good experience once. What do you all think? Should we just watch her if the rabbit vet is not in or try emergency vet? She is able to jump up onto furniture just fine, so I am not sure what is going on. Thank you.

I'm sure any vet can take an x-ray to check for fractures. If you really think something's wrong with her, go with your gut and have her checked out. It may just be a bruise or a sprain though, since she's eating, pooping and moving alright. But prey animals hide their injuries very well, so if you observe anything slightly off, chances are there's something up.

I am sure she could just be sore from falling. I think most of us if we fell we'd feel pretty cranky too! But, like you said, it never hurts to check it out.

Thank you for the replies. I called the vet, and the "rabbit" vet was not in, but another vet spoke with me, as they normally won't see rabbits themselves. Based on my descriptions and replies, the vet advised to continue observation, and if she didn't begin to improve (or got worse), I should take her to another emergency vet out of town that they recommend. Between the 1.5 hr that I posted to this board this morning, and the time I called the vet, she was already acting more herself. I had her on the bed again with me, and she was not displaying any reaction to being petted in the rear area. She was still acting angry tho, but did decided to jump on top of my chest and head, and lie there for awhile. Her tummy was gurgling quite a bit, so we did the tummy vibration thing to her (she is predisposed to stasis). After that, she actually stretched out and relaxed in her cage. I also gave her some infant gas drops. I think the fall may have scared her into some low level stasis or something. Anyway, she is now back to normal, thank God!! Running and binkying. One of the things that made me so nervous was that I did not actually witness the drop- just had my husband's account of it. Thanks for the input!
