how can you tell how old a rabbit is

No way to tell for certain. Older rabbits may sometimes have a rougher coat and not hold their flesh condition well. They also have thicker toenails.

Haley, Pam Nock replied to you (see above), and she's so knowledgeable, nobody else can add anything!

I know that even vets have trouble telling age beyond a certain point.

I hope your bunnies are doing well!
