As I mentioned last night, I'm a firm believer in trusting your instincts! I'm sure you'll make the right call about who to let treat your precious Roo. Like you're planning, I'd definitely do a follow-up with your usual vet later - it makes sure she's fully in the loop with his treatment, lets her double-check everything and allows her to make sure things are healing the way they're supposed to. I gave some more specific tips regarding today's visit in your other thread, by the way :).

One other thing... you speak *very* highly of your usual rabbit vet - would you be willing to post her information and a recommendation in this thread of Ohio rabbit-savvy vets when you get the time to help others in your area who might need a good vet? (Even if she's already listed, multiple recommendations are better than one!) I recommend commenting that there's more than one vet at the clinic who is willing to see rabbits so that people are aware if they choose that clinic; feel free to mention that you've seen the other vet one time and give your thoughts/impressions on them after today's appointment :).

Ok so we just left the vet. I feel very comfortable with this vet. He handled Roo so well and carefully. He told us that if the tooth is cracked high up in the gums, Roo can have problems with his teeth and we may have to see a specialist. But if the tooth isn't cracked very high up. His tooth can possibly grow back to normal. He is going to put roo under anesthesia today remove the tooth. They will be able to tell from the tooth how far back it's cracked. They'll be sending him home with painkillers and antibiotics tonight.

I'm glad you were happy with the unfamiliar vet! I really hope it's good news at the end of the day and he doesn't need to go to a specialist... but it sounds like either way, he's in good hands!

If he's getting antibiotics, I recommend asking the vet if they can put him on a probiotic as well... if they don't carry probiotics, you can sometimes find them at feed stores or pet stores or buy them online (though it's certainly better if you don't have to wait for shipping). Bene-Bac Plus is my preferred brand, as it's got prebiotics in it as well. Probios is another brand. I like the gel, as my girls will eat it straight. Antibiotics can be rough on an animal's system, especially since he'll presumably be getting a broad-spectrum antibiotic and those do what they do pretty indiscriminately (meaning they can take out beneficial bacteria as well).

 Don't worry, Roo, you'll be home from the scary vet place safe and sound before you know it!

Well the vet visit went well he the tooth wasn't broken too high up. He came home and he was completely out of it. After snuggling him for a few hours he is coming around. We just gave him his pain meds and now we just got to get him eating again. Over then next three months we'll have to monitor his teeth closely. Hopefully his teeth will grow back to normal. I'll attach a photo of him staring off into space once he got home.

I'm so glad it's not nearly as serious as it could've been. Poor little guy's been through quite a bit in the last 24h or so, as have you! Hopefully you can relax, unwind and enjoy some bunny snuggles now that he's all taken care of and you don't have to worry so much... not to mention, hopefully get that nap I'm sure you need!

What type of rabbit is he?

He is quite the mutt. His Father is a Mini or Holland lop, his mother is a mini rex mixed with lion head. His sister is a lion head. Here, I'll post pictures of my bunny family.
In order the photos are: Penny, Penny, Pandi Piglet and Roo, Piglet, Roo, Pandi. Pandi is the mother, Penny the father.

Hey you guys I just wanted to update you all on Roo. We took him to the vet and she said his tooth had healed up nicely. Now we just wait 3 weeks and they will recheck to see if it's growing in straight.

Great news!!!! Thanks for the update! Hope everything continues to go well for Roo! :yahoo:
