Ok, so yesterday afternoon, we finally bought abale of Timothy hay for the girls. Oh, WOW...I had no ideahow HUGE they were!! It wouldn't fit in our little Saturn, sowe had to call a friend to bring over his truck so we could take ithome!
Needless to say, 40lbs of hay and $20 later, we're in theHAY!! Both bunnies are eating it like crazy, and were runningaround their cages in excitement when we brought it in because theycould smell its freshness! Last night, they ate what theynormally eat in a full 24 hours!
We also bought some horse bedding pine pellets, and tried something newwith their litterboxes with it (for transition). We put justone layer of the pellets in the bottom, put enough of the CareFresh toalmost cover the pellets, then put a scattering of dirty litter (topreserve their smell in it) over that, and finished it off with ahelping of hay. Flower LOVES it this way!! She hashad the BEST time with this. We also have hay in their hayracks, but she's eating it from everywhere!
Maisie's not terribly thrilled...seems she likes it ONLY in her hayrack (we'd never put hay in her litterbox before...was a totalexperiment to see if she'd like it), and cleared all of the hay out ofher downstairs litterbox overnight. Not to mention, we had tomove her litterbox to the other side of her top floor because she'sbeen peeing there (meaning the hayrack went with it), and she workedall night trying to put the hayrack where it used to reside. But, since it's clipped to the cage and she couldn't move it, sheresorted to taking ALL hay out of the hayrack, and putting it where therack used to be. Just all in a big pile...it's soadorable. Hopefully she'll adjust to it being somewhere newsoon. She hasn't done anything yet with the hay I put inthere this morning, but she has been rather pouty. Hmmm...asfar as hay in the litterbox, we'll just go back to it only being in therack.
Anyway, we're so happy we bought those things in bulkfinally!! The hay cost just over $20, and we think it's about40lbs (its taller than our 6yr old daughter!!), and the bedding bagsays it's one cubic foot (whatever that means), and it was$6. We used to spend $6 on 1lb of Timothy hay every other dayand spent about $6 on just a medium sized CareFresh package (it's 10liters vs the 30 liters of pellet bedding we bought) every fewdays. This is wonderful and will save SO MUCHmoney!!
The bunnies are happy, too, despite Maisie's grumpiness to change.

Edit:
Oh my!! According to the following website, and themeasurements that coincide with how large our bale is, it weighs about60lbs!!! LOL!!

I have to admit, I was slightly embarassed to say we were buying it fortwo little bunnies...LOL!! All I could squeak out was thatthey were picky about freshness (which Maisie definitely is)!LOL!! :embarrassed::rollseyes::lookaround:blushan
I felt like saying, "nope...we have horses just like everybody else here..." LOL!!
P.S. Guess I should have researched just how much a bale ofhay was before buying...lol...but it's nice to have all we wantnow...and is so much more affordable!! :colors:
