Hi

My Dwarf Lop Daphne seems to have fur that changes colours a bit. She is kinda brown but she will get these patches of kinda golden fur on ocassion. She actually used to be kinda a grey colour. Im wondering if I should be worried about her, or whether its normal.

Her fur always seems to be patchy like that, so I wasn't sure if molting occurred all year or not. My other rabbit Willoughby has never had that. Shes about 8 months old approx.

ive noticed that max is actually lighter in summer than he was in winter.

i was thinking perhaps its some sort of adaptation to the heat - ie darker colours hold in heat more and lighter colours reflect them, hence the coat change.

i'm not sure if its right or not, just my pet theory :p

It's a molt...shaded colors look crazy when they're molting!

Siamese sables also get darker with age, so if your bunny is younger, that may be the cause.

lol molting it makes it looked like you murdered a bunch of small animals in your backyard XD

My rabbit is currently molting also so there is fur everywhere.

Thats weird because there isn't any molted hair anywhere! There is an ocassional ball of hair from when Willoughby has a fake pregnancy and takes hair of Daphne, but yeah. Daphne is a Dwarf lop and Willoughby is a mini lop, is there a difference when it comes to molting as Willoughby has never molted that I can tel...

Molting, I have found can also be dependant on breed or genetics. But even the best genetics cant hold back a molt when in the summer. I have one chocolate bunny and she looks great for about 5months out of the year, same with my brit, and then the other months she looks like this:

My other chocolate bun didnt look like that till she had her babies. She was a nice deep chocolate color through out the whole summer which i thought was amazing.

Heres my brit when hes molting. All those waves in his fur is the dead hair.

I really believe that if its an outdoor bunny season takes molting to another level. The thing is rocky stays inside with me so thats why i think its partly genetic. But cooler weather is a great hair season for my buns
