George and Gracie are a bonded pair of Flemish Giants. They are brother and sister. Both Sandy, correct? Bred for meat and not show. What do you think?

Any critique? They are a little overweight, I noticed.:)
I have little experience in showing Giants but I like GJ's body type more than Gracie's but she seems to have better bone.

Congratulations, Where did you get these two? At ten pounds we could say they are not full grown correct?

The actually have very nice body types and the flemish is really showing through.

The color is a bit off though and I can't know why without knowing old they are OR if you are sure they are purebreds.

Anyway- congrats for George and Gracie.

I got them from a rescue shelter thing. lol. I believe they are both a year and a half. I'm not sure how long it takes them to be full grown.

they're beautiful!

Both Sandy, correct?

they look kinda like agouti to me, but i could be wrong;)

any way, congrats!

ETA: you're gonna start a blog, right?

Aren't they black tort in colour? Maybe that has a different name in the flemish world though.

Flemish don't "come" in tort. They are only (supposed) to be in seven varieties: white, black, blue, sandy, light grey, steel grey, and fawn.

BluMagic, they are very pretty! Congrats on your new "little" babies!

Most certainly tort.

Flemish carry non-extension (fawn), so mixing fawns with the self colors of black or blue can result in tort.

Agouti (Sandy) has agouti markings and don't have the shading that the torts have, although they are also reddish in color.

It's probable these guys are mixed with acommercial breed such as New Zealand.

Hmm, well you learn something every day, LOL. Shows you how much I know about genetics, doesn't it? :biggrin2:

It takes them a year and a half. :biggrin2:

So if they are a year and a half, and only ten lbs currently, they are a mix.

What matters is are you happy with them? Who cares what they are if you are happy with them.

But yeah- the coloring and the size and the ears makes me think one parent was a flemish and one a New Zealand resulting in this tort color and smaller size. Happens all the time.:nonono:

The other option since I have seen one just like it recently on the internet is that they are a harlequin cross.:pullhair:

But if you are happy with them hey:bunnydance:

Checkered Giants were also bred along next to the Flemmies. So I'm guessing they are Flemish Checkers. lol.

They are lovely and look very content. Congratulations on your new "babies"!
